Owner description: Founded in 1999 by Brothers Charlie and Ed Shelton, Shelton Vineyards was envisioned as a new agricultural resource for an area once dependent on tobacco farming. Located in the heart of North Carolina's Yadkin Valley, Shelton Vineyards is 180 degrees from any winery you will find on the West Coast. The distinctive characteristics of Shelton wine come from the unique soil and climate of the Yadkin Valley. This helps give Shelton wine an inimitable taste that holds its own against any wine from any area in the world. We invite you to visit us, try our wine and see if you agree that our wine is as unique as the area we are in.

This was a very pretty Vineyard. There is a wine tasting for $5.00 per person which includes a tour of the wine making facility. There is a restaurant on site and lot's of picnic tables as well as a walking trail around a lake.

Quick getaway from the Greenboro area. Enjoyed seeing the winemaking process and tasting the variety of wines. Driving into the winery gives the feel of entering one of the California vineyard's! I was amazed at how many vineyards are in this area.

My husband and I came here for a quick romantic getaway... The hotel is very nice and clean with comfortable beds and a good continental breakfast. The vineyard grounds are gorgeous and well kept. The wine is great! The restaurant was top knotch... The scallops and lobster was out of this world and the best crab cakes I've ever had in all my life. The waitstaff and all employees were all very friendly and helpful. My husband and I plan on going back quarterly. I would most definitely recommend Shelton Vineyards to everyone.

A major player in the North Carolina Wine Industry, Shelton Vineyards is a large operation, rivaling many a winery in the Napa Valley, California region. It is the largest family owned winery in the state. And if you haven't been there, you should make it one of your destination points while visiting the Mt. Airy/Dobson, NC region.

The location of Shelton Vineyards was a stroke of genius and perfect timing. The winery sits among gentle rolling hills with the Blue Ridge Mountains clearly visible in the background. The setting easily reminds one of the Napa Valley region of California. The various wine buildings are tastefully constructed and decorated also. Shelton Vineyards holds a variety of huge special events during the year to include outdoor concerts that pack 'em in.

In addition, they have a separate restaurant on the premises. It's a 5-star operation called the Harvest Grill and if you haven't eaten there yet, by all means do so. Pricey - yes, but well worth both the cuisine and experience!

Now for the wines. Shelton offers a large variety of whites and reds to choose from - many of which are world class varieties. Yes, as most other wineries in this region, the majority of their wines are of the dry variety. However, they also have a series of semi-sweet and sweet wines to ensure that all visitors are taken care of. And that gift shop operation is huge - the largest I've seen of any winery throughout North Carolina.

And be sure to take the wine tours where they take you below the building to the barrel room, etc. With a large operation like this, it's worth it to check all of this out.

Every time we go (we've been there a half-dozen times now over the past 4 years), we wind up leaving with a few bottles of whites and reds. Now whether these wines will be your favorite is not for me to say - after all, we all have our favorites. Suffice it to say, this is a wonderful location to visit.

What's even nicer is that since Shelton is such a large operation, they've built a huge Hampton Inn right down the street (still Shelton property), and it's called the Shelton Vineyards Hampton Inn. In fact, it's the only hotel in North Carolina that also features a wine tasting room, complete with a full collection of all of the Shelton wines. We stayed there and the rooms were superb.

So yes, we enjoyed our visit and I believe you will also. See some of the photos I've uploaded of both the Shelton Winery and of the Hampton Inn right down the street.

We stopped here by chance. On our way driving back to Florida from a HORRIBLE trip to Niagara Falls, ON. We were so tired so stopped at the Hilton Shelton which by the way, LOVE LOVE LOVE! In the morning, after breakfast, we stopped at Shelton Vineyards before continuing our drive. Must remark at how beautiful the landscape was. Even though we were the only visitors at that hour, the young lady in the shop gave us a personal tour free of charge! Now how is that for customer service. We ended up buying a few wine bottles and the prices were reasonable.
