Save yourself the aggravation of renting this home. We are Duck "regulars" and decided to stay in Duck Landing this year. Nenas Nook looked nice enough...or not..
First of all, they would not allow us to check in early even though we offers to pay. We had small children and got in town early. There wasn't anyone there before us but, ok...your house, your rules. Next up were the dirty floors and bathrooms. MOLD and dirt, again, small children. The icing on the cake was the filthy pool that they REFUSED TO CLEAN. OBX Blue (the realtor) said that the owner used his own pool guy so they couldn't help. The owners pool guy came and cursed (literally) my husband and brother in law out before collecting all pool equipment and leaving. The next morning we woke up to find poop, yes poop, in our pool. Hours later and after emailing multiple pictures they sent the pool guy back to shock the pool. Needless to say we were unable to use the pool the entire week and weren't offered so much as an apology. Stuff happens but at least own it...
This was our first time in the OuterBanks. We vacationed with two families and there were 14 of us at the house. There were so many places to be in the house that if you wanted privacy, you could find a nook.
The beach is private for association residents and there is a recreation center with indoor pool, hot tub, gym, ping pong and billiards. The kids loved it there. Have them bring their scooters or skateboards and they can get to/from even faster.
We could walk to the beach and town center in a few minutes. There are two great restaurant/bars at the end of the street - Red Sky Cafe and Roadside Bar and Grille. Excellent food and night life (Roadside has a great backyard bar with an outdoor movie screen, games and live music) all within a very short walk. The Duck Boardwalk area is wonderful at night for sunsets, shopping and ice cream - again, a short walk; this location might be the best in town.
The Sunday check-in was key as traffic on Saturday is heavy. Walmart and Harris Tetter are about a 15 minute drive (without traffic) so getting what you need is easy - there are also many convenience stores in town.
Corolla was a 25 minute drive - beaches there are beautiful and you can see the wild horses. Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head is about 30 minutes away and has great dunes to hike and explore.
We will be back to Duck and to Nena's Nook!
