I read the terrible reviews and still ventured here... It can't be THAT bad, right? Wrong.
The only redeeming quality of this resort is the proximity and access to the beautiful beaches of the Outer Banks.

Our first floor unit was dark and smelled musty, probably from the old carpet throughout the living and bedroom areas...we kept the windows open as often as possible. We found mold in the pantry. That's a red flag and a health regulation.
My daughter had an uninvited guest, a roach the size of a Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie,in her bed sleeping quarters. Furnishings were a bit tired but serviceable.
We had guests staying with us and I was totally embarrassed that they had to deal with this situation too.
I don't know how this place is allowed to stay open for business in this condition. I've taken pictures to send to the local health department.

Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry you had a negative experience. We have completed all of the exterior work at the resort. The interior is the next phase. This will alleviate the issues you expressed. As far as the bug We are surrounded by water and yes occasionally there are water beetles that can get into the units. We do our best to prevent this. The units are regularly sprayed by pest control. We hope you will try it again when the remodel has taken place.

Unit 105. We arrived at 3pm. They would not give us keys until 4pm even though the unit was ready . When we did get in room, we found large amounts of mold in the showers and on bathroom walls. And the pantry smelled so badly of mildew we wouldnt dare put food in it. I sat on the toilet in the master bathroom and it tipped back and punctured through the subfloor. We went to the front desk to address it. They said they couldn't move us. But offered some air freshener, and said they would send maintenance. I went to Walmart and bought bleach myself to clean the bathroom. The bleach killed the mold, which indicates that they do not even try to mitigate the mold, since it cleaned up so easy. Maintenance never came, so I went back the next morning. They finally came, but said the building was schedule for remodel soon and they could do nothing. Offered to turn off the water supply to it. We left for the day to tour the OBX. Returned around 7Pm to water pouring from the ceiling, on to the couch in the living room. We called the after hours number and a security guard came to check it. There were gallons of water soaked up into the couch and carpet. A steady stream was pouring down. The security guy called maintenance. They said they would not come check it until the next day, and just put a bucket to catch the water. It would fill a 5 gallon bucket in about 30 minutes. Then the security guy called the manager. They said there was nowhere to move us, and offered fans to help dry the floor. This was ridiculous. But the security guy pushed the issue that our family of 6 could not be expected to stay in that place for 2 more nights. The manager then agreed to move us to a smaller unit at another resort they managed 2 miles away. We moved. The other place was way nicer, but we had to have someone sleep on a pullout in the livingroom, which is what we were trying to avoid with the larger unit.

On a positive side, the outdoor pool and beach access were awesome!

I have never had a bad experience with RCI prior to this. The place was not up to RCI standards.

We pay a lot of money for timeshare, and you expect a certain level of quality. This place does not provide that.

Pro: Close to beach, easy access, lifeguard station, pool/snack shack and walking distance to heart of Duck.

Con: Needs renovation, linoleum in bathroom and kitchen bubbling, fixtures chipped, sofa bed sheets dirty, bed hard/ pillows like tissue paper and decor outdated.

We stayed as RCI guests and it was not worth the exchange rate.

Overall very satisfied. Location was great. Lots of stairs but staff helped us with our luggage. Unit needs to be updated. Unit for 8 only had one television. Could use another one. Loved movie night at the pool. Will return.

The first night there my daughter called my husband to kill a roach. The next night, she had one crawl across her. We had roaches in our room as well. We had to clean roach poo from the cabinets where the plates were kept.
