“Indy bookstore, salon and a few eateries”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

We were expecting a LOT to see and do... not so much. There are a few shopping options, a tuxedo shop, a salon and bohemian dress shop. There is a nice bookstore and a Duke themed gift shop along with a couple of bars and restaurants.

“9th St is a mix of many things and all good”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

We always make a trip to 9th St for a meal and coffee/dessert afterwards. The changes happening there will make it THE spot when they get completed.

“Shopping & Food”
Reviewed 27 August 2013 via mobile

This short shopping street is a must-go-there place in Durham. The Regulator Bookshop is fun for browsing and buying the latest best-seller or classic. The shop also offers free events featuring mostly local authors. Vaguely Reminiscent is one of my favourite shops anywhere and sells clothing, wallets, handbags, shoes, and many trinkets. Have lunch at Chubby's Tacos or Elmo's and dessert at Francesca's. There are other restaurants and coffee houses too. Whole Foods is close by too, as well as restaurants at Erwin Square.

“The student slum of Duke”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

9th Street has seen better years, and with the establishment of the Harris Teeter and the other buildings on the west side of 9th Street, I imagine there will be some cleanup on the east side. Downtown is more fun than 9th Street now, not sure that was true ten years ago.

“Quirky shopping and dining”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Dain's place has great beer and burgers. Vaguely Reminiscent is a very quirky shop with fridge magnets, journals, clothing, and funky jewelry. Bahn's has good Chinese or Vietnamese food. Tucked back on Perry St. and up the hidden stairs is the Cosmic Cantina--cheapest and tastiest quesadillas and black beans around.
