Owner description: Located on Duke University's West Campus, Duke Chapel is as magnificent in structure as it is rich in ministry. Construction of the Chapel was begun in October of 1930 and completed two years later. During that time students continually congregated at the stonemasons' huts to watch the Chapel take shape. It was first used for Commencement in 1932 and was formally dedicated on June 2, 1935.Duke Chapel continues to be a Christian church of uniquely interdenominational character and purpose. Through its tradition of inspiring worship and music, and a calling to walk with people of all faiths and circumstances, Duke Chapel acts a beacon of grace on campus and in the community. All are welcome to take part in worship, learning, dialogue, and service.

Duke offers a lovely glimpse of European Gothic architecture. Parking close by for easy access (non-event days). Check the calendar website prior to visiting.

If you go plan, ask for a docent to get the entire Duke story and to understand how all of its family members contributed. Generations have joined together in the Duke family to make their mark on this incredible chapel. Well worth the visit. Just pray that someone is playing one of the four organs when you visit. The visit and the music is a religious experience.

Magnificent chapel, beautiful architecture and stained glass. Open each time I visited. Worth a look if you are in the area. We walked up from the Duke Gardens and the medical center, so not sure where you would park to visit otherwise.

Loved the awe-inspiring height of the nave and the amazingly lovely stained glass windows. This structure is truly as grand as some European cathedrals. A treasure!

Our first visit to Duke University, and it was so enjoyable! We were traveling with a tour group, and had plenty of time to walk through the gorgeous gardens and the stunning chapel on the grounds. The weather was perfect too, sunny skies and moderate temps on this trip in late April this year. A wonderful time and well worth a visit if you're in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC. Students who attend Duke have a beautiful place to just sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
We and fellow visitors were treated to an impromptu gathering of a large men's choral group of students evidently practicing one of their songs there in the gardens - wonderful!
