“Great hotel attached to Carolina Theater”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Wonderful hotel full of staff that are aiming to please you in any way possible. The valet parking staff, the front desk staff, the room staff...they were all awesome and extremely attentive to our needs. Being attached to the Carolina Theater made it very convenient to get to/from our concert. I'd highly recommend tickets to the theater and a night here as a wonderful quick get away treat.

We stayed here to attend an event at DPAC which is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. Although we were using our annual free night from Marriott , we were still given a really nice room, a corner room with great views of the city on two sides. The staff who greeted us, directed us to the complimentary parking lot, and the desk staff were friendly and professional. The room was immaculate and nicely appointed with a super large TV, small fridge, and a nice feeling of spaciousness. Sometimes you sacrifice the space and extras in a downtown high rise hotel. We rarely stay in high rises but this was a really nice hotel with a friendly personal feeling. We'd stay there again. And it is ideal if you are attending a concert or event at the Durham arts center. It is very convenient as well to restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room!

We were here to visit Duke University. This Marriott was in downtown area- not too much happening and have to drive everywhere. The staff was helpful and nice. The room was spacious and clean although our beds (which were billed as queens but seemed like doubles) were soft. Ours was so soft that we asked them to do something about it and they put a board under the mattress which helped for the second night of our stay. The staff gave good restaurant recommendations as well.

Beautiful Marriott in Downtown Durham. Within 3-4 walking blocks of DPAC and many resturants and coffee shops. We didn't book a corner room on the concierge level, but were given one (thank you!). Great complimentary snack, apps and breakfast served in the concierge lounge. Beds were super comfy with great pillows. Very clean. Didn't eat in the hotel resturant or get any room service so can't comment on that. In sum, if you are looking for a place to stay for a ball game or DPAC event, you can't go wrong here. We parked on the street and had no worries.

Room Tip: Try to get an upgrade to the concierge level.

I'm a Marriott rewards memeber, so stay in Marriotts all the time. I have to say, this one in Durham is really pretty remarkable given it's in a mid-tier city. The lobby was attractive, rooms were large, bathroom up to par. But what made the hotel stand apart - the staff. The BEST and friendliest from the doorman to the front desk to housekeeping. Great job, Marriott!

I stayed for one night in a 6th floor room, my first return visit since 2007. Check-in was smooth ... until the room keys I was assigned wouldn't unlock the room door. I returned to the front desk and they made new keys & sent someone to test them. Turns out "you have to push the door handle up instead of down; it was installed upside down." Seems like something that could easily be fixed.

Otherwise, the room was good, clean and spacious and quiet. The downtown area has a few pockets of activity but is still basically deserted at night, so if you didn't drive keep in mind there won't be a lot to do in walking distance. One good place close by is Dos Perros for solid Mexican food and cocktails. The parking lot is now located in a lot across Foster St., a minor upgrade from the creepy parking garage across Morgan St. I'll likely stay again next time I'm in the area.

Stayed here for St Patty's Day weekend with some friends for a baseball series at nearby Durham ballpark. The room was spacious and clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. Our overall experience was wonderful.
