We stayed here on the spur of the moment on our way to the Outer Banks. The rate was much less than staying on the outer banks. Our room was okay. The air conditioner was dirty, tub mat covered a very dirty tub floor and mold was on the tub wall. I did tell the desk clerk when checking out and she was very accommodating about my concerns. I would stay there again. The beds were comfortable and the room smelled clean. Just a little more attention to housekeeping and it would have a five star rating from me.

Stayed in late September, 2012, and the property was undergoing renovation. Had to walk around construction areas. Maybe I should have known but don't recall seeing that on my reservation. The public restrooms on the ground floor were in the housekeeping staff laundry area. Under the bathroom sink were two stray pieces of paper - clearly the room had not been thoroughly clean. Disappointing but not uninhabitable. Service was pretty good but the woman at the front desk could not suggest a nice place to ride although I discovered Elizabeth City has at least two great and well marked bike routes in and around this charming town.

We stayed for one night at the Hampton Inn Elizabeth City on the way to the OBX. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel has a pool that was pretty well maintained.

Given the amount of people that stayed at the hotel (there was a large family reunion and others like us that stopped on the way to OBX) it was surprisingly quiet throughout the night.

The staff was really friendly and knowledgeable and the breakfast was fantastic! Overall a very good one night stay.

One note for those that are staying here and traveling to Corolla on Saturday morning - we left at 9am and got to Corolla at NOON! So eat your breakfast early and head out the door at 7am if you want to make it to OBX without hitting crazy traffic.

To avoid turnover traffic in the Outer Banks on Saturday, we now spend Frday night at the Hampton Inn in Elizabeth City. We leave PA after work and arrive late in Elizabeth City. We were greeted by a friendly young lady at 10:00 PM and immediately made us feel welcome. Arriving late and tired it was a relief to have a friendly face and a room waiting for us. Our room was typical Hampton Inn and nothing fancy, but clean, comfortable, and quiet. For anyone wanting to avoid the traffice on Rt. 12 it's a reasonably priced hotel and saves a lot of stress on your first day vacation. The breakfast is free, light, and lets you put something in your stomach before heading to OBX where you can have a fresh catch lunch at one of the many restaurants while you wait to get into your retal house.

We arrived too late to explore the area, but have become somewhat familar. There are a couple restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and several chains a short drive away. We traveled with our 2 grandkids this time and had two beds. My husband is 6'5" and the bed seems more like a full than a gueen, but for one night I can fight for my share of the bed.

Room Tip: If you're tall you may want to confirm the rooms with 2 beds are queen size and not full.

Just here Thurs. June 14/15, 2012 We have stayed here a few times when coming to ECSU to visit our kids and have not been disappointed yet. The rooms have always been very clean, updated and very cozy. The pool and poolside were very inviting and well maintained also. The dining area and breakfast was simply amazing; factor this in when you consider the price to stay here; you will not need to go out for breakfast. Lots of food options for breakfast and a comfortable space to enjoy it in. THE BED: I wish I could have rolled it up and took it home with me!

The only critique was that the person checking us in did not provide an initial receipt when we paid up front and failed to disclose that an additional $20-25 charge would be assessed on our credit card (later refunded once confirmed that we had no additional charges to the room).

Room Tip: Being at the end of the 2nd floor hallway put us directly accross from an exit downstairs to the parking lot; we could see our vehicle from our window.
