We have actually had lunch here twice, separated by several months, but I forgot to write a review the first time. Both visits were very, very good memories of great sushi. In the interim we have dined at a top rated sushi place in Myrtle Beach SC that was also great and perhaps a bit better than Toyama because of the SC restaurant/bar having a superior menu with pictures of what you are ordering and a fantastic diversity of choices...............but that is SC and for NC Toyama is excellent.
Waitress was fast, attentive, and helpful. We had to wait about 25 minutes for our order the second visit but we soon learned why. There are two sushi chefs and they had apparently received a huge take out order before we got there right smack at lunch time. We saw two ladies walking out with 3-4 plastic shopping bags full of take out containers after we had been waiting for about 15 minutes..............THAT is a good reason to maybe time your visit somewhat after 12;30 rather that when we got there closer to noon.
We decided to take the advice of another TA reviewer and get the "Roll Party" this is 4 rolls cut into appropriate pieces that consisted of Dragon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Tempura Roll and Spider Roll. HONEST............all were very good but the spider roll (fried soft shell crab) and dragon roll were the best. We did have leftovers to take home and if you don't plan on that two people cannot eat the Roll Party without help.
While waiting you are served some fine tasting Miso Soup........next time if we get there at noon I will order the gyoza recommended by other reviewers and that will get us through the wait. Also, you get to see some really fantastic stuff going by and I wish this place would move to the Outer Banks so I could go there several times a week.
Highly recommend this restaurant and they have menu items for people who might like other things prepared in their kitchen other than sushi.
