My 63 year old knees made it to the top! Great views at the top. A waterfall at the beginning of trail. It is really close to the town of Franklin.

We did about an hour each way on the Wallace Branch along a bubbling creek with small waterfalls. A little strenuous but not bad and the trail was mostly shaded. We got on shortly after a rain and it wasn't muddy at all.

This is a hidden trail that probably many people miss. You might want to just go part way and then turn around, but don't do that! You need to make your way all to the steep hill. Once you struggle up the steep hill, you will be rewarded with a wonderful and amazing view of the mountains of Franklin! It's worth it to go when you can just sit up there for a while and reflect on life. I highly recommend it for those who appreciate and respect the nature and natural beauty of God's brilliant creations.

Depending on where you catch the trail it can be quite challenging. If you are just looking for a 2-4 mile hike each way you can park along the road to wayah Bald and hike as much as you like. We saw several long term and 1 or 2 short term hikers on the trail. It is worth it for the views. There are two balds nearby that you can hike to. and several groups camped out. Great place to be outdoors. Cooler here than in the nearby towns.

The Bartram Trail via Wallace Gap is a nice hike for families and most novice hikers. You'll see some small waterfalls along the creek, cross a couple small bridges, and make your way up to William's Pulpit for a scenic view to the west of the Nantahala National Forest. A great place for a picinic, or just catching a sunset, this section of the Bartram Trail is something for all tastes and skill levels of hiking ability. A great location for photography as well.
