“Another Year on the Gulf Stream”
Reviewed 20 October 2011

This was my third trip with the Albatross fleet. 1st trip on a makeup charter in July 2010. Good fishing, dolphin, and amberjack. @2nd trip 1/2 day for spanish mackeral. Caught and ate fish both times. 3rd trip July 2011, chartered the whole boat with family. My son got sea sick and we did not find many dolphin, but we had a great time, ( my son would question that). Captain Ernie is a really nice guy and his mates are always nice and personable. This is not the fastest boat in Hatteras, but you will have a great time. Fish cleaning @ their own dock is fair and convenient. I then take the fish to Risky Business on Oden's Dock for flash freezing for the trip home. Captain Ernie and his staff are true Hatterasmen. Read Hatteress Blue for the history of the Albatross fleet. See you in July of 2012 Captain Erine.

“Captain Ernie will take you where the fish are!!”
Reviewed 31 August 2011

My oldest son told his brother and me, " we are going fishing in the Gulf Stream when we go to the Outer Banks if I have to pay for it myself." We told him we would pay our share if he arranged it. After several days research he said he booked a full day charter with the Albatross Fleet.

The Albatross Fleet offered the most economical charter out of the Outer Banks that we could find. They don't have the newest or fanciest boats in the marina but they get the job done!

That said we showed up just before sunrise ready for our fishing adventure. We introduced ourselves to Captain Ernie and mate Andy. Both were quite personable. Captain Ernie told us, "as soon as Andy gets everything ready we'll be on our way at sunrise." Right at sunrise we left the dock with several other boats from the marina.

It took a little more than an hour to get out to the Gulf Stream. During the GORGEOUS ride out to sea at sunrise Andy readied all the fishing tackle. Then all of a sudden we had several lines in the water. About 20 minutes later we had our first strike, a Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), the largest fish of the day though not by much. Right after that we were in a school of Dolphin, the three of us reeling them in one right after the other. Needless to say this kept Andy hopping. Andy, being the pro he is, was more than up for the task. He took the fish off the hooks and baited them far quicker than we possibly could have especially since we could barely stand up in the rolling seas.

Long story short, back at the marina, about 4:30, we were told we had one of the better catches of the day. We ended up with 1 Wahoo, 13 Dolphin and 8 Blackfin Tuna for a total of 115 ponds of fish and a day of memories for a father and his two sons.

For 35 cents a pound we had them clean our fish. All we had to do then was put the fillets in ziplock bags and throw them in our coolers. They cleaned and filleted all our fish in about 20 minutes. Well worth it in my opinion!

To summarize if you want to catch fish, and save some money on your fishing charter out of the Outer Banks, book with Captain Ernie Foster and his mate Andy of the Albatross Fleet. They offer no frills "git er done" fishing. If you want a comfy boat ride on a fishing boat that has microwave, AC, dvd, costs several hundred dollars more and has all the comforts of home book with someone else.
