“Special Place - Incredible Pie”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to the Viginia Creeper. This is Not your Waffle House eggs and grits, although I like Waffle House just fine. Mountain Pie is something special. If you want to sit with the one you love and have a taste treat to savor and enjoy, Mountain Pie should be on your itinerary. These are ladies with culinary skills far beyond the ordinary. They invite you to dine within their home and treat you like their special guest. With bellies full we hit the road but had to choose a pie to go. I think you will too!

“Bad breakfast - zero stars?”
Reviewed 5 October 2013

I really didn't like this place. It is a small roadside pastry shop, that appears to be serving breakfast as an afterthought. I might have given a "1-star" review, but I understand that this may be a perfectly fine place to buy a pie, or - if you're a little old lady - maybe have tea and nibble on a crepe with your bridge club. It's just NOT a good place for a satisfying breakfast (or brunch). Very limited menu of crepes, waffles and french toast... that's it... no eggs, no meats, and - oddly - no tap water is served. (I suspect, by the condition and odor of their bathroom that their well water tastes terrible... probably why they don't serve it.) Though the food was tasty, the portions were VERY small. I could have ordered two plates and still not equaled one "normal" breakfast served just about anywhere else. Not kid friendly.

Merri T, Owner at Mountain Pie and Cake Company, responded to this review, 26 October 2013
Dear Sir,
I am so dismayed that you were unhappy with my restaurant. We offer a double breakfast to anyone who requires additional food. We cater to people over 50 who do not have large appetites. We are a bakery cafe operating under the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and do not serve meat or vegetables as per their regulations.
We do not have well water, we have city water and sewer.
The most expensive meal in our restaurant including a beverage, fruit plate, mini muffin, entre' and tax is just $8.62, just a bit above a fast food restaurant and includes table linens and silverware. I think that is most reasonable. I recently went to McDonald's and with a sandwich, hash browns and a drink it was more expensive than that.
I apologize for your service. Cordially, Merri Tyndall

“Wonderful food and friendly hostess”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

We enjoyed breakfast recently while passing through Hendersonville. The strawberry crepes were totally delicious. We also appreciated the small fruit plates and glasses of orange juice that accompanied the meal. The décor is very charming. We did notice a few needed repairs that might add to safety/hygiene. On the day we visited the roof was leaking in the dining room and one of the bathrooms lacked water. The hostess was very kind and spent the proper amount of time checking on us and engaged in warm conversation. After our meal we took away 2 pieces of pie to enjoy later, and they were absolutely delicious. We highly recommend this delightful spot for breakfast, brunch or specialty sweets. Hendersonville is very fortunate to have this place!

“Mountain Pie & Cake Company still the Best in Hendersonville”
Reviewed 14 August 2013

My wife, Phyllis and I have been long time supporters and customers at the Mountain Pie and Cake Company. We have never had anything but an outstanding meal and dining experience. I have read the reviews dated 6 and 7 June 2013. I am not a relative of Merri and Bill Tyndall and they can stand on their own every day the front door is open. But in our experience of having eaten there many times, the food is just wonderful and the owners do everything is humanly possible to have you leave happily full and well satisfied. The restaurant is not designed for young children by menu selections but we have been there when children were well behaved and fully accepted by Merri and Bill. We love the food especially the crepes and the whole wheat pancakes. The prices are fair for the quality of the food is supurb. Don't miss it! If you want wonderful food prepared just for you, an atmosphere that allows you to eat without at your leisure then you must visit, enjoy the terrific fare and make your own decisions.

“Beautiful space, fluffiest pancakes”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

This is a lovely place to eat breakfast or brunch, or to stop in the afternoon for a slice of cake or pie or a box of muffins. We started at the top of the menu with the blueberry pancakes, which were the fluffiest ever, served with warm syrup, a fruit plate, and juice. The coffee was excellent. We'll definitely go back to further explore the menu, which includes crepes and french toast made with croissants. We've also tried several of the huge muffins, all of which were delicious, and the pies and cakes on display are gorgeous. It seems hard to find a charming place to dine these days, but the Pie Company will not disappoint you. Wonderful food in a cozy, peaceful atmosphere at very fair prices.
