I can't remember having a more perfect Valentine's Day meal... the food was excellent, the service was great, and the dessert was a bit sinful... but oh so delicious!!

“Good food; excellent service”
Reviewed 5 January 2014 via mobile

Went on a Saturday night for a date with my husband. Nice "date" atmosphere. Food was good, especially the shrimp and grit cake appetizer and the key lime pie. Service was excellent.

“Always Stop By When in Hendersonville”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

I visit Hendersonville every few months to check on my elderly parents, and I always plan a stop Square Root. It's one of the most upscale and "urban" style restaurants and consistently very good to excellent. Like a reviewer below, my partner and I were there on Sunday 30 December, when they were completely overwhelmed by an unexpectedly large number of Holiday customers. We were there for post dinner drinks only, waited a LONG time at the bar for a drink, but then were served very well and nicely by Alison, who comped us for a glass of wine given all the confusion. We went back the next night on Monday, and found them briskly busy, but we had attentive service. The stars on the menu are the appetizers I think. This time, we had the tuna appetizer which has three differently spice tunas, perfectly cooked rare, with three different very nice sauces. The chicken curry dish with papadam was very nice, if slightly spicy and perhaps a few too many potatoes vs chicken; but the flavor was wonderful. We also ordered the fish tacos, one of which the fish was lightly fried, just right, and the other more like fried bread. Dunno how that happened. One really nice reason to go on a Monday or Tuesday, wine bottles are half price and the wine selection, tho small, is quite good. The Hendersonville downtown has been nicely renovated in the last year, and it's pretty vibrant, with shops, delis, restaurants and bars. Well worth a stop. I'll be back to Square Root, and my other favorite, West First Pizza, next visit.

“Good recovery”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

This restaurant was one of the few open in town on a Sunday night in Hendersonville The staff was obviously overwhelmed with the crowd (weekend after Christmas). We sat at the bar and had our doubts we'd made the right decision, but within 10 minutes our patience paid off. We were served a delicious lite supper. I had the lettuce chicken wraps and my friend had the tomato with white bean soup and the Cobb salad with chicken. The homemade Key lime pie was yummy! We congratulate the staff on their perseverance. Manager, please take note!
