“Superb Mexican food in the middle of nowhere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Was on a group motorcycle ride when we found El Azteca in HIghlands on the way to the Bridal Veil Falls. Being from Texas, I was unsure of what we would find there but was very surprised. Fast service, good chip dip and excellent food. I had the chile rellenos and they were incredible, some of the best I've ever had. Others had chicken mole, mole enchiladas, cheese enchiladas and other dishes and every one of our large group had nothing but good things to say about the food. I would HIGHLY recommend this place, even if you have to drive a while to get there. A+

“A different kind of Mexican Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

We went to this restaurant tonight. I found it to be very good. Ken was a very good server and was attentive to our need. I really like Mexican food and this restaurant rank very high on my list. Prices were reasonable and the food very good. I recommend the restaurant to all.

“You won't be disappointed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

Dined here per recommendation of inn keepers and enjoyed it very much. Prices are great and portions are most generous. Consider sharing. Sat in the back near the bar and believe it or not, more quiet. A wonderful Mexican choice. Chips and s,as are relish too!!!!!!

“Mucho Bueno!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

This place is muy fantastico!!! Great food at a mid-level price point. The portions are generous and quite affordable. Ivan was our waiter and he was quick, efficient and professional. I ordered the burrito and it was massive and dee-lish. Hint: if you like spice, they have an incredible green sauce that is available on request, it heats the side of your tongue and I just wanted to dispense with the chip delivery system and just slam awesomeness sauciness right from the ramekin directly to my mouth. But manners prevailed (sigh). Good atmosphere, impressive selection of cocktails, unobtrusive service (ask for Ivan!) and an overall terrific value. Ultima!

“A great Mexican restaurant hidden in the North Carolina mountains”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2013

Friends recommended this restaurant, and they were not mistaken. The chicken poblano rellenos were the best I have experienced. Their hot dipping sauce - cream based with jalapeños - was excellent. Too much Tex-Mex on the menu, but both our dinners were truly Mexican and very tasty.
