Description: Ruka's Table embodies the spirit of Highlands with a casual but elegant atmosphere, excellent food and service, and a commitment to quality that we believe is unequaled. We buy as much local produce as possible to sustain our farming communities. Ruka's menu is an array of specials, salads, soups, appetizers, entrees, and desserts that are 100% house made from the finest quality ingredients that we can purchase. Our steaks are local, dry aged, hormone free meats of the highest grade. Our menu has a variety of seafood and poultry dishes and includes daily specials and our take on southern specialties. Ruka's features a beautiful, copper topped, full service bar that offers full menu dining and a huge assortment of craft beer, specialty cocktails, and a fantastic wine list. The bar is flanked by a large stone fireplace, and is situated under a 30 foot, beamed, cathedral ceiling.

If you are near Highlands, NC, Ruka's place is a must do! The chef created a vegetarian plate for me that was unique and delicious! My husband and I were particularly impressed with the roasted okra and the lady peas. Cheese plate appetizer and fresh basil gimlet topped off a fantastic dinner! Our server, Gregory helped to make our dining experience memorable!

There was nothing left on any of the plates that we all ordered and at the end of the meal we couldn't decide which one was the best cuz they were all absolutely amazing!!! The taste on the first bite was delicious and the second bite got better and than then eventually all of it was gone and all of our forks were scraping the plates. That is from the appetizers thru to the main course and to all the way thru to dessert my taste buds were alive! We are almost ready to cancel all our other reservations for our weekend in Highlands and dine here again, it is that good. Also the service and all the staff at the restaurant were attentive and interested in our dining experience. Justin, if you ever decide to leave and move to Charlotte they would be lucky to have you. Thanks for a great dinner and celebrating my husbands 60th birthday with all of us foodies, great evening to remember!

Ruka’s Table is an amazing gem of a restaurant! Justin Burdett’s food is incredible: it is fresh, seasonal, flavorful, unusual, and delicious. My sister and I ate there on a recent visit to Highlands, sitting at the bar, where we enjoyed wonderful conversations with Brooke, bartender and wife of the Executive Chef, Justin. The restaurant was not crowded that night (shockingly, considering the fabulous food), so Brooke chatted with us and another couple at the bar, even having Justin come out to meet us and sharing some of their incredible house made pickled tomatoes—yummy. The food is creative yet with clear Southern roots: peach, tomato and cucumber salad being one example. The house fermented foods, the house canned tomatoes, the other produce that they purchase in bulk to preserve and serve throughout the winter—cooking as rural farmers have done for years. But in a restaurant! I love that. Brooke was attentive without hovering; I love that she offered us tastes of wine to help us choose (and even split one serving in two glasses when we wanted to share one). We ate here for dinner one night, then returned the next day for lunch. The burger with Humboldt fog cheese was divine; Justin cooked them exactly as ordered (one medium rare, one medium)—easier said than done in many places. I really can’t rave enough about this restaurant! P.S. We also ate at Cypress and Ristorante Paoletti…nice locations, pretty food, not even in the same league as Ruka’s Table.

Having been a former food critic I recognize a chef who has a passion for food. Such is the case with Justin Burdett who came to Highlands from Miller's Union in Atlanta. He also WON Chopped on the Food Network! His farm to table menu uses fresh produce and fruit and free-range chicken. His peach and tomato salad is a favorite as well as the sweet corn soup with essence of vanilla. Seared scallops with pea puree and glazed blackberry is divine and the grouper is fabulous. Have tried most entrees and all are superb! The fresh fried okra is worth the trip AND the salted caramel ice cream is the best I've ever had!! You will love this!

Ok Highlands pay attention - you have an incredible jewel in your crown here, the food is extraordinary, made with care and finesse and attention to ingredients. Peach and tomato salad was an outrageous and wonderful combination that I couldn't have imagined , corn soup tasted like corn just plucked from the garden, grouper in tomato broth delicate and terrific and lots more ! Run , don't walk !
