“Way overpriced”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2013

My self and my assistant stayed there for 3 nights while working in NC. I booked the suite for $218 per night as the discription said there was a pull out bed in the other room. My room was damp and my assistant had to take the matress off the couch and sleep on the floor. They charged my room for the first night on the day I booked with no refunds if not cancelled within 7 days prior to arrival. They gave the feeling that the place was booked out. The first night we were the only car parked there. Absoloutly no athmosphere. It did however make my list as one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in.

After reading some of the recent reviews, we had some concerns about Highlands Inn Lodge. We even checked availability at other hotels. None with this good a location were available. We were in for a wedding and many of the other guests as well as many friends were staying here. This hotel, which was once a Hampton Inn, still retains its previous exterior, but the common areas, inside, have been remodeled with a dated "lodgy" decor. However, it was clean and comfortable and about what we expected. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. These accomodations were good and reasonable, especially for an exclusive, up-scale area.

There are some very nice things to say about the Highlands Inn Lodge. The lobby and dining area are very inviting. The staff at the reception desk is welcoming and friendly. But I do have some things to say about the room we stayed in:

When we first walked in to our room we noticed that there were these round disk things on the floor across from the bathroom inside the front door of our room. Upon closer inspection they were insect traps – gross! We also discovered that the closet door was off its track. In addition to that the sink filled up with water and drained very slowly. Also, there was a piece of toilet paper stuck in the front door’s peephole viewer. Which begs the question – Housekeeping must have been in a hurry when they prepared this room for the next guest. I hope they at least changed the sheets on the bed! The room was also very dated and shabby.

You may ask yourself why we did not call the front desk to complain. Reason: We checked in late. It was close to 10 p.m. when we got our luggage up to our room. We were only staying for two nights so we endured it. When we checked out we did tell John at the front desk about the problems.

The website is deceptive. On it the website states, “Highlands Inn Lodge is not just any Lodge! This upscale Lodge ….” I expected more from our accommodations, especially when the name of the hotel contains the words "Inn" and "Lodge".

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first before you commit. Also, ask for a room on the second floor. All the room...

During season this motel is expensive and needs to be redone. The room decor is very dated. Only plastic cups in the bathroom. Towels are extremely thin. However the staff is very nice
Find another hotel in the Highlands. This one has seen better days

This was previously a Hampton Inn. It has inside entry but was older. The carpet was gross but I wore my flip flops and was ok. The breakfast was free and very nice. No exercise room.

We had a group of eight ladies on a 3-day get-away. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The rooms and common areas were clean and comfortable. Very quiet area. I'd stay there again.
