“Authentic Italian”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner here in July. They bring you bread with an ollive oil dipping sauce, very strong garlic taste. We also ordered the dates stuffed with cheese and wrapped in proscuitto, very different and delicious. For dinner we shared a meal of crabmeat and pasta, more than enough for two but be aware they charge 8.00 to share an entree. For dessert we shared a tirimisu, good but not the best I have ever had and this was an Italian restaurant. The only other criticism I have is that the initial server - a gentleman, was not at all friendly and had a superior air about him. The lady waitress was much nicer. All in all a good experience.

“Best Bolognese, So-So Service”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

The manger called to apologize after we indicated our disappointment with service in a note at bottom of our bill. We appreciated this and will try again. Looking forward to exploring some new pasta dishes.

“Re-evaluation”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

When we first visited Rustico it had opened recently and showed promise. We were impressed with the attitude displayed by the staff and the quality of the food for a new establishment. We went back recently with a party of five and the entire evening was a disaster. Two of our party ordered braised scallops and were served veal scallopini. I ordered Veal parmagian , which was the special of the evening, and it arrived burned to a crisp and inedible. We decided to make the best of a poor evening and have Tira Misu and coffee and then leave. To top off the entire evening we were told there was no Tira Misu. One of our worst dining experiences ever.

“Good Dining”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We were off to a rather uneven start at this restaurant. Three different watipersons stopped by our table to advise of the daily specials--butter than not being told, I am sure. Then, we were somewhat put off by the notice on the menu that appetizers could not be ordered as main courses, something we occasionally do. Three persons ordered initial beverages and all were served to the incorrect person. There were no problems following this. Each of four ordered a different entree and all declared their choice to be very good. No other courses were tried on this visit. Following the unimpressive beginning, the service was very good. It was somewhat pricey.

“The best meal we had in Highlands”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

We ate at Rustico on our last night in Highlands. We had trouble getting a last minute reservation at several other places and chose Rustico after checking Trip Advisor. (so glad we did!) It is a very quaint log cabin down a small gravel drive. There were two dining areas that we saw, one in the main area which was darker and looked more romantic, and the other on a closed in porch, which was much brighter. We had reservations and were immediately seated. Our server was very prompt in attending to us and continued the great service throughout the meal. We both had wine with our meals (large wine list) and both were delicious. I started with the tomato mozzarella salad, which was a layered salad of fried & raw tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, and a balsamic dressing - outstanding! My husband had a garden salad and loved the dressing with which it was served. For dinner, I had the seared scallops over asparagus risotto. It was absolutely delicious! My husband had the lobster ravioli which was fantastic also. We shared the amaretto bread pudding for dessert - again, very tasty. This place is a bit off the beaten path, but it is well worth searching it out. We will definitely eat here again when visiting.
