“Locked Out”
Reviewed 16 June 2013

Not so good here. Arrived late after 11 PM and found the office closed with a note taped to the front door that our room would be open and the key inside. Sounds good.

No ... the door to our room was locked leaving me and my wife standing outside in the dark.

Walked back to the after difficulty understanding what he was saying he unlocks the office and finds a key to our room.

Mentioned to the front desk checking out in the morning and .... "oh well it was a new girl" .... are you checking out soon?

Room Tip: Many other options in Highlands.

We are so sorry that this happened on your stay with us.
This is not how our guests are normally treated and I do apologize and ask that you give us a second chance.
We have a very high rating on TripAdvisor and with our guests. We do have a new Front Desk person and I'm assuming that she just forgot and I will be speaking to her about it but on the other hand, Salvador does live on the property for this reason and I'm so glad that he got you got into your room with little difficulty.
Again, things happen sometimes, and I do apologize and ask that you return and give us another chance.
We are so excited about our 74th season and have completely remodeled several cabins in order to continue welcoming guests to Highlands for another 75 years.
Please call and ask for Natalie on your next visit to Highlands.
We hope to see you soon.

We had a large wedding party book mutiple rooms for the weekend. The staff at Mitchell's was so helpful and friendly, our rooms were very clean and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the large outdoor pavilion and fireplace. Great place for a family reunion!

Room Tip: The cottages are an excellent value

I've stayed at Mitchell's many times over the last 10 years. Never a bad experience. Ginger and Natalie take great care of all guests. You can spend more (a lot more) on accommodations in Highlands; but if you're out doing 'stuff" all day, and dining out at night....why would you spend more? Thanks for a great, value-added, option in Highlands lodging.

We stayed here without knowing anything about this place and were so happy that we found it. The people were incredible. Ginger was so nice and accommodating when we checked in and Natalie was wonderful when we were leaving. We are definitely planning to come back and stay for a few days. It's nice to find a family-owned place where all the people who work there take real pride in what they have and what they do. A real find and a real treasure. Can't wait to return.

Spent one night for a wedding in Highlands. Unfortunately it rained and rained, but our hotel experience was very SUNNY! We were supposed to arrive at the wedding at 4:00, but the check-in time for the hotel is at 4:00, and we had to travel to get there. I was worried that we would not have enough time to get ready, so I called the hotel several days ahead and requested an early check-in. Ginger was SO pleasant and helpful! She said that if there was someone in that room the night before us, she would make sure our room was the first on the list for cleaning so we could check in just after 12:00. We arrived at about 2, and when we did, Ginger saw that we had our kids with us, immediately gave us extra towels, and announced fresh baked cookies in the next 20 minutes. She also was very accommodating in case we should need a late check-out, A very pleasant experience indeed. The only negative was that the carpet in our room (in the newer part of the hotel) had a tear and needed to be replaced.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the newer section. The oldest section has SMALL rooms and very small showers - no t...

Spent three pleasant days here recently. Had an upstairs room In the lodge, where all rooms in the two story structure appeared similar. The room was large, with rustic but tasteful post and rung furnishings. The bed was very comfortable, with lots of pillows, including a thin one as I prefer. There is a gas log fireplace (gas flow is on a 15 min timer, the blower goes until you shut it off). There is a balcony large enough for a table with 4 chairs and 2 rockers without feeling crowded. There is a jacuzzi tub in one corner of the seating area and a three seater settee. Our room had a kitchenette. Minor annoyances: smallish bathroom with crowded sink area; small clothes hanging rack in a corner that room lighting did not illuminate; could not sit on settee and see the TV but then that settee was painful to sit on; minimal dishware in kitchenette and a terrible micro coffee brewer (there is good coffee at the reception desk from 8 AM on, but separate building). Pleasures: the friendliness of the staff, the well tended grounds and general ambience, a commercial ice machine with a huge hopper, and convenient parking. Full value received for money paid.
