Stayed in cabin with my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful stay. The cabin we stayed in had a king size bed, a living room with a gas fireplace and a kitchen. Very nice family owned lodge. Highly recommend as an affordable vacation getaway!

Stayed in Highlands at this hotel for 2 weeks for work. They are very polite and helpful. The rooms have everything that you need. There is a grocery store right around the corner. The place is beautiful. The only down size if they still have tube tv's and we were told that these are upgrades from TV's from 2 year's ago. The kitchen is fully stocked with plates, cups and silverware and comes with dish soap to clean any dirty dishes. I will defiantly be back in a few weeks and stay back here. :)

Room Tip: If you are traveling with a family I would request a suite as there is a living room and also a bed...

We stayed two nights at Mitchell's in October 2013. We had a great time, the rooms were comfortable, the view was wonderful (like being in a tree house of fall foliage) and the staff was helpful and friendly. I have a dietary issue and the hotel provided me with gluten free bread for breakfast. Doesn't get much nicer than that. There is also a great grocery store behind the inn. We bought fresh fish fillets and cooked out on the grill on the lodge grounds. With a full moon and cool crisp air it was heavenly!!! I have saved this lodge in my contacts for a return next fall.

When we drove up to the office I instantly fell in love with everything about the Mitchell Lodge and Cabins. The exterior was so nicely landscaped and laid out it was immediately inviting to a weary hiker like myself. My friend and I had been photographing waterfalls and hiking around Highlands and we were ready for a comfy bed and relaxing evening. We got to stay in cabin 3 and it was so quaint, had so much character and was exactly what I needed. The cabin was clean and had all the amenities a modern traveler would ever want, wifi, tv, whirlpool tub, full kitchen, 2 BR and 2 Baths it was also reminiscent of a by gone era. Tongue and groove paneling, quilts on the beds and log cabin walls. After a long leisurely soak in the big whirlpool and a hearty dinner at the local burger joint, I snuggled into soft, sheets and a firm mattress for a restful nights sleep. It was located near a busy highway, but thanks to the heavy plantings and layout we heard no traffic sounds. Quiet seclusion is what we found. Free continental breakfast and a friendly and accommodating staff made our stay here one I'll never forget.

Room Tip: Cabin 3 was located close to the pond and gazebo with an outdoor fireplace.

Mitchell's Lodge is a short (2 minute) drive from Highlands Main Street. Although we found the décor a bit dated (some might call it "rustic"), it was fine place to stay for a family gathering where all of our activities were being held elsewhere. The property layout is much like yesterdays "motel" model, where one parks outside of their room. It appears that they have a variety of room configurations. We stayed in room 19, which we found to be clean and has a king size bed. The room also had a couch (non-sleeper), a small refrigerator, sink and small 2 serving drip coffee maker. The room has a large back porch that looks out towards a wooded area and stream.

The open air pavilion pictured is near a pond, where kids could look at the fish, tadpoles and ducks. Our first night wasn't very good as the pillows were flat and my wife and I both woke up with neck aches. There was nothing we could do because we discovered the pillows late into the evening and the office was closed for the night. When we spoke with the staff the next morning, they were very apologetic for the condition of the pillows. They did not hesitate to replace them with fluffy pillows that allowed for a good nights sleep on the following nights.

The property has two open wifi connections but connections are spotty and required us to switch connections depending if we were in the front side of the room or the back. In fact, Verizon cell service, itself, is spotty.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the included breakfast that is served from 8-10am in a small room next to the office. As it only seats 8 people, it was perfectly acceptable to grab something and take it to your room. It was mostly comprised of thawed out pastries, English muffins and a couple types of bagels. Hard boiled eggs were available to those arriving early and went fast. Coffee was served out of push lever thermos', while juice was machine dispensed and milk was in a gallon jug in a sink with ice.

Factoring in the amenities, I feel the room pricing was a bit high in comparison to what we are used to but may be reasonable in comparison to other property in Highlands. It is in a good location and easy to find. If one is looking for a place to sleep, this might the place for you. If, however, one is looking for on-property dining, entertainment or activities, it isn't here.

Room Tip: Check the room when you arrive so issues can be addressed before the office closes.

Clean rooms, great rates in an otherwise quite expensive town, and the staff far exceeds any expectations one could expect from any establishment in this beautiful town. Free WiFi, free breakfast every morning, convenient parking and a location close to everything going on in town only 2 minutes away. If you stay here, you WILL be back!

We spent the long Fourth of July weekend in Highlands, staying at Mitchell's and it was fabulous! The hotel has wonderful character. We stayed in the older section, The Log Lodge, built in 1939, and you could tell by the size of the bathroom. However, we loved the charm of the room which has been meticulously maintained since 1939! The location is spot one, adjacent to Main Street making everything within your reach. Just rounding that corner off of Main Street makes the property feel secluded and away from away from it all. We will certainly be back!

Room Tip: If a small bathroom bothers you, make sure to get a room in the newer Cedar Lodge.
