I suggested this restaurant inclusion over 2 years ago & trip advisor told me it was of insufficient interest to their readers. Ha ha.

Thanks to others for raising its profile a little higher - its a total gem food wise, with the traditional pork mountain stew a gobsmacking mouthwatering taste fest' an stand out dish. Pork in chestnuts is also a winner. Red wine list - full of special offerings.

Take your time, enjoy your winding journey there & then ditch the car for a few sumptuous hours in this ideallic mountain top white walled village with a beautiful working Olive Press museum & shop to visit close by.

I had passed through this village on an enduro bike (not something that you can do in a car) and it is a beautiful village in a fantastic location. The restaurant is set in an old olive oil mill and has a lovely terrace.

The food, whilst based on traditional recipes, uses local ingredients to great effect. The depth and richness of flavour was superb and quite unexpected from what seemed a basic menu choice.

You can buy some of the ingredients from the shop, we certainly did, the confit tomatoes, chestnuts in brandy (mmm!) and a bottle of olive oil.

Well worth a special visit, but a must if you are in the area.

This restaurant is a real find!! Virtually hidden from the rest of the world, Benalauria is down a steep Hill off the Gaucin road. Once you find it however you will be stunned. Views of the genal valley are wonderful.

The restaurant itself serves only meat dishes, and vegetarian dishes, no fish. However, the meat dishes they do produce are amazing. Their ribs just fall off the bone, and the lamb is equally very tender. Because it is in the "chestnut" area, a few of their signature dishes obviously feature these, and my dining partner loved the chestnuts in brandy!!!

Wonderful soups, and "postres" and a good wine selection, this restaurant is just the best,

Well worth a trip, and any sat nav will find it easily. Don't miss it !!!

We were staying outside Marbella for two weeks in August. We wanted a break from the touristy coastal restaurants and also wanted to see a bit of the countryside. After a bit of research, we settled on Restaurante La Molienda in Benalauria.

Firstly, the drive from the coast is not easy. It is along narrow, country, mountainous roads. It also takes about an hour and a half from Marbella. However, it is certainly worth the drive.

The town of Benalauria is a very small, very beautiful pueblos blancos perched looking over amazing countryside. There is a real sense that you are in the middle of nowhere.

The restaurant is easy to find, at the entrance to the village. The staff are very welcoming and the menu has a wide choice with some real local delights - such as pancakes with chestnut sauce. You can sit on the outdoor terrace and while away hours in total solitude. After your meal you can buy a few local delicacies in the shop below the restaurant and then take a walk through the village.

Visiting Benalauria and La Molienda is a perfect way to spend a day if you want a break from the intensity of the coast. Highly recommended.
