We rented the one & only penthouse through First Flight Rentals. The view & location was perfect. A little spiffing up is needed to the property inside & out, however it was clean and comfortable. Only one luggage cart is available and cannot be taken out to the parking area. This could be hard for some folks. Also, the famous Kill Devil Grill is right across the street. Great food, but they use the hotel parking, and can create problems especially on the weekend for guests. We encountered this coming in on Saturday but during the week we had no parking issues.

Thanks for your feedback. We plan to upgrade the Penthouse next offseason, so hope to have you back again! And we agree, Kill Devil Grill is a hidden (Maybe not so) gem!

We enjoyed staying here. Easy access to the beach. Would stay again. Staff was very helpful. Beds were comfortable. The breakfast was nice. Very close to all the attractions and restaurants. Nice rooms.

This is one of those few feel at home places on Outerbanks!. I booked this for my family and a few friends. And we all insisted on a first floor room with a beach facing balcony. Its absolute bliss. Stay in the room, it has a small kitchenette and walk right to the beach. my kids loved it. The only thing I would recommend as a change will be the breakfast. No eggs and all cold servings isn't quite a good start to a day!

Room tip: Choose the room on the main old building on first floor if we want free access to the beach.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you had a great stay at The Yancey. We agree - our oceanfront rooms are unique in that you are steps from rooms to beach!

We look forward to having you back again soon!

This hotel has a couple of different buildings. Previously, we stayed in the larger, multi-story hotel building (with an "ocean view" - which is NOT ocean front). This time, we lucked out and were in the older section (Room 503) and you open the sliding glass door, step onto the porch and then onto the beach. You are literally a couple hundred feet from the waves! This is not a chain hotel and is not "fancy". It's just plain, simple and lovely. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, plentiful fluffy towels, cheerful and friendly staff. They have their own deck. Had one issue with our room card (new clerk being trained), which was quickly sorted out (less than two minutes). This place is also pet friendly and most folks had their dog(s) with them. It's a great place to unwind and relax, close to plenty of places to eat, etc. Centrally located - easy to into and out of.

Room tip: We had an ocean front room - literally right on the beach (Room 503). Lovely!!

This is a great motel right on the ocean - and not affiliated with a large hotel chain. There are several room options in 2 buildings. Highly recommend choosing a room in the Four Seasons building with a semi-ocean view. Costs a little more than some rooms in the main building; less than oceanfront rooms. We were in Room 320 - very spacious with a balcony and chairs - from which we could see the ocean and beach. Hotel staff was friendly and efficient. Grounds were well kept - with an in-season outdoor pool, a playground, a boardwalk with a seating area leading to the beach, picnic tables, an outdoor grill. Be sure to try the restaurant right across the street called Kill Devil Grill- very popular with locals.
