“Pretty bad, even by OBX standards”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2013

It's not easy to find a nice hotel in the OBX that isn't Hampton Inn, the Hilton, or a smaller Mom and Pop/B&B. Ramada didn't exactly have me thinking I would have a 4 star experience for $70 in February on Hotwire. However, I have to say that the place is pretty deceiving, advertising itself as a 3 star hotel. Most places in the OBX are openly less than 3 stars; you don't go there looking for luxury per se. However, on top of all the renovations going on, the place does smell (as other reviewers have noted), the front desk service is sketchy (one came to my room looking for an 'Ashley' at 10 am, though a simple check would have confirmed my wife and I were still in our room. The AC unit came on sporadically (but not before the room got up to about 75 degrees, making the night pretty uncomfortable), and the bed destroyed our backs. The room itself was recently 'remodeled', and it looks like they used spray paint to give it its new look. There were drunk people and children running up and down the halls all night long, and this is in the off-season. They must have been doing a special with Hotwire to attract more business. I contacted Hotwire to make them aware that the 3 star rating was very misleading. We have stayed at this hotel before, and there is never adequate parking. Out front several of the much needed spaces are taken up by huge dumpsters filled with construction waste. It didn't really bother me that the keys to my room didn't work upon our arrival, but as I have recounted here, the experience just went downhill pretty quickly. I wasn't expecting the lap of luxury, but a little peace and quiet, and the absence of weird smells and loud noise in the hallways, plus working AC, well, expecting those things aren't asking too much, especially in the middle of the night. I implore you to steer clear, because I want you to have a better OBX experience than we did.

Room Tip: If you absolutely insist on staying here, make sure you book an oceanfront room at the start. I trie...

Thank you for staying with us recently and also for your detailed comments. We wish that you had a more enjoyable time regardless of room rate as guest satisfaction is our primary concern. We hope to be through most of the major renovations soon and resume a more normal daily operation. We do appreciate the feedback and hope you had a good time in the Outer Banks area.

Showed up as part of a 20 plus strong bonds retreat party for the weekend. Apparently the hotel never informed the person booking the trip that the place was under major construction.

- Only one of two elevators worked, we took to the stairs for the entire stay.

- Place looks and smells old, after the renovation though it should be fine.

- Only a thin door and wall separate you and your neighbors, you could literally hear them whispering, imaging if other stuff is going on.....

- I could have stolen 10000 dollars worth of tools if I wanted, they were practically laying everywhere including on the boardwalk to the beach. Workers just leave the tools laying out at the end of the workday.

- wi-fi was spotty, sometimes working and sometimes not.

+The restaurant had great food and service but was severely understaffed.

+Check in and out was easy, front desk was polite and answered the phone.

+Pool and jacuzzi was nice and clean.

+Fitness center was okay I couldnt get the treadmill to last more than a few minutes before it would shut off.

+ View and location is a plus, retail, movies, museums, laser tag and putt putt are all within three miles of the property.

Maybe after the renovations this place will be a great place to stay.

Thank you for your constructive feedback and for also staying with us here on Nags Head Beach recently. We are working hard to complete all of our renovation plans in order to move past the construction and to joyous relaxation. We do apologize that you did not have a more enjoyable visit but do hope you will try us again after renovations are complete.

There are renovations being done to this hotel right now. Yet, that was not the trouble with our stay. The mess in the lobby didn't bother us at all. However, the nasty smelling room did. My fiance thought it smelled like a skunk, but it stayed all 3 days of our trip. The worst part was that our connected room had loud, arguing people that were just a thin door away during their one in the morning argument. With no continental breakfast and crappy Wi-Fi we will definitely be staying somewhere else for a weekend getaway.

Room Tip: Either be familiar with your connected roommates or bring ear plugs

We are so sorry that your recent trip to our oceanfront hotel was not more enjoyable. Our goal is to have guests leave happy and relaxed from their time here on the beach and we are disheartened to see that you didn’t have a more peaceful stay.

Had reservations for 2 nights, stayed only one, should have left after 5 minutes. The lobby and first floor is all torn up. Check in is just a desk and unorganized. Got our room keys, waited forever for the elevator, get to the room and the cards don't work. Back down to the "lobby" waiting for the elevator both ways and finally get cards that work. Meanwhile brushed up against a wall that coated our jacket with dust and grit. Tools laying on the floors, empty luggage cards blocking the hallways and my biggest peeve was nothing was marked. Took forever to find a door and then pathway to the beach and getting back into the hotel from the beach was next to impossible. Room wasn't as clean as it should have been. Heater/fan was so noisey that it woke us up in the night. Shower was the only positive. Used to be that you could count on the Ramada name, never again.

Room Tip: Ask when you book if they are in the process of renovations. If so book someplace else.

We booked the only sea side room that had a jaquzzi. The tv was not working properly and after a couple of hours of having a maintenance man in our room we decided to change rooms. Not the fault of the hotel , seems the cable company has a problem but it was our anniversary and we have been coming here for 27 years so, it was a bit of a dissapointment. All of this could have been avoided had we been informed of the renovations and "trial runs" when we booked one week earlier. Room service only for the food, lobby not in use,no entertainment on weekend as advertised, kind of sad, first time we ever had a problem.

We so appreciate you staying with us again and wish you a Happy Anniversary. Our apology for not being able to provide you with the room and view that you had requested because of the television/cable situation. It was an unexpected occurrence even to us and we are sorry we could not correct it for you during your stay. We promise to make it up to you next time you come and stay with us!
