This Days Inn was offering a winter special and we went there for a few days to celebrate our anniversary. We were welcomed by a real fire in the fireplace and hot coffee, hot tea and chocolate chip cookies in the dining area. We had booked a room with a queen bed, and the motel had given us a free upgrade to a king bed. However, we really wanted a room facing the ocean. Only 4 rooms, all with double beds, have an ocean view. The desk clerk was very agreeable, and rebooked us in an ocean view room. With our AAA discount, the price was nearly the same as the room we had booked online. The receptionist was very knowledgeable about what restaurants were open in the off-season, and made some good recommendations. The breakfast was better than most Days Inns, and had egg and sausage in addition to the usual fruit, bagels, waffles, cereal, etc. The cleaning staff was very efficient. We also took advantage of the day pass at the local YMCA, which had really good equipment including weight machines, stationary bikes and treadmills.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are 230, 232, 234 and 236. They have 2 double beds. Room 232 also had a small slee...

The Days Inn Oceanfront Wright Brothers has become my wife and I's favorite place to stay on the Outer Banks. It's an older property but it has been very well maintained and the old fashioned lobby with the wide plank flooring and the fireplace is wonderful. The staff is always very pleasant and helpful.

We have been staying here for a number of years now on our annual anniversary trip to the coast and have never had a bad experience, something that cannot be said of a lot of places.

Room Tip: Most of the queen bed rooms are small. The two double bed rooms and the dunes front rooms are larger...

We want to always thank our repeat guests that stay with us year after year--so Thank You for visiting with us again. And your room tips are correct---the queen rooms are normally smaller than the rooms with 2 double beds, so if you want a little more space you may want to go with 2 double beds instead.

We thank you for your kind words on our property and about our staff.....it's nice when they are able to see how their work affects others and I'll share your review with them. I'm sure we'll see you on your next anniversary and we thank you again for visiting and celebrating with us!

Thanks--Tonia

My son and I stayed here for two days while taking a road trip in November. I chose the hotel because it is oceanfront and was a great price, our room was one that faced the road. The room was a bit small but was fine for the two of us and had all of the things we needed. I do wish I could have either opened the bathroom window or that there would have been an exhaust fan in there because it got quite hot and humid when showering. That being said, it's really the only negative I can think of. The breakfast was good with a lot of choices and they stocked everything frequently. The nightly cookies and hot apple cider was great after spending a day on the beach and the cider was really good. The location is great and is right on the beach and is so close to the Wright Brothers Monument you can see it from the hotel. The staff is friendly, helpful, the beds were comfortable, the linens clean and the WiFi worked great. I loved the large front porch with rocking chairs and the creaky wood floors in the lobby. Now that we lived closer to the Outer Banks we plan on coming back again and are looking forward to it.

Room Tip: If your room has to be absolutely dark, ask for a room that isn't up front.

Although this inn had many of the typical Days Inn ammenities (fridge and microwave, iron, hair dryer,it was far from typical. The building is H-shaped, with one leg of the H being the only side with a view, and a dunes view at that. If ocean view is a priority, this is not the place (ask if any rooms have an ocean view). It is on the beach side, however, and a short walk to a great beach. An old inn, the soundproofing was minimal, and hall noises in particular could be annoying. The room and bath were small, but my main problem was lack of places to put things down. We ended up loading down the second bed. That being said, I still rate the place above average for a Days Inn. We came in at night to a welcoming fire in the fireplace, and cider and cookies an unexpected treat. The continental breakfast had more hot and cold choices than most Days Inns we've stayed in. The rate was extremely reasonable, though we were there off-season.

Thank you for your title because we definitely think of ourselves as "Not a typical Days Inn." We do try to be the best we can possibly be. I'm glad that you were able to check into a welcoming environment upon your arrival. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and we do hope to see you again on the beach!

This hotel is a "different" ocean side experience ... a great rambling building that yes, can be noisy; that yes, could use better mattresses; that yes, could have larger bathrooms, but has more charm than about any "beach" hotel I've ever seen. It starts with a huge, welcoming front porch complete with comfortable rocking chairs --- you can almost see old dudes sitting out there smoking their cigars decades ago. Enter the lobby, a large room with a great, aging, wood-burning fireplace, and the smell of chocolate chip cookies being baked. Add to that the loveliest, tasteful Christmas decorations imaginable (lovely tree, beautiful Christmas wreaths, and garlands banding the large, heavy, double front doors,) and you can over-look a lot. Great place to take the edge off the loneliness of business travel during the holiday season. Friendly, helpful staff. Good WiFi. A place you can look forward to returning to.

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room. They have at minimum an ocean view. Very few ocean front rooms. First...

We appreciate your taking the time to write a review of our property. I'll make sure that our staff that did the decorating will read your lovely comments concerning their efforts. During the holiday time periods starting in October we start getting the lobby ready for fall (with our pumpkins and mums) and then move on to greenery and poinsettias right after Thanksgiving. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us--especially your comments about old dudes sitting out in our rocking chairs!

As we are the longest, continuous-running hotel on the Outer Banks, many of our bathrooms are on the smaller size since when the original structure was built in the 40s people didn't build large bathrooms as they do today. We will check on mattresses on the first floor for rooms that were rented near the review date, as all of our mattresses have been replaced in the past few years and I do appreciate your feedback.

We hope to see you again on the Outer Banks and please feel free to contact us if you wish to return! Thank you--Tonia

This property is fairly typical of an older beachfront motel, with some rooms opening directly to the outdoors with other interior rooms directly off the lobby. We occupied one of the smaller interior rooms.

We stayed at the motel for one night in late November, after Thanksgiving. Upon arrival (without reservations), we were greeted warmly by the woman at the reception desk. It was a cold evening, and a fire was burning in the fireplace. People were decorating the lobby for Christmas.

The room we occupied, a smaller one with a queen bed, was supposed to be a non-smoking room, but it definitely had an odor of stale smoke. After some time in the room, the odor became less noticeable. The room was adequate, older but quite clean. There was a large stall shower, and water pressure and temperature were good.

The hallway outside our room door led to the back of the motel, where there was a short walk to the beach. Out back, there is a large barbeque area. A washer and dryer are available off the lobby.

Breakfast the next morning was good for an economy motel, with sausage patties, eggs and an assortment of breads, bagels and fruit. There was a choice of juices and some of the best coffee I've had at a motel.

We enjoyed our brief stay and would definitely consider staying at this Days Inn again.

Thank you for visiting with us at our Days Inn on the Outer Banks! We appreciate your taking the time to write feedback concerning your stay with us. Our hotel was one of the first hotels on the Outer Banks to have all nonsmoking rooms--we have had all nonsmoking rooms & suites for over 4 years now. I am sorry if there was a smell of smoke in your room. We do charge offenders a $150 charge if they are found to have smoked in the room and then the room is stripped completely down so that everything can be sanitized.

I am pleased that after traveling the staff was able to make you feel warm and welcome upon your arrival and that you like our new breakfast program. We just started it at the end of November now with: sausage, eggs, waffles, cereals, English muffins, wheat or cinnamon/raisin bagels, yogurt and more. During this time of year when it's cold we love to keep the fireplace going and normally from about 1 to 9 pm we offer complimentary hot, spiced apple cider with fresh baked cookies and popcorn.

We would love to have you visit with us again and if we can be of further service please don't hesitate to call! Thank you--Tonia

We recently went to the Outer Banks for the marathon they host. Days Inn did a great job helping out the runners on race day. The view of the ocean is priceless & to be right on the beach like they are is absolutely stunning!
