We booked a room for a one-night stay the week of June 18, 2012 with no intel about if this was a good place or not a good place. In other words, we took a gamble. But the price was reasonable, and we could accommodate our family of 5 in one room. We were most pleasantly surprised. The place had just re-opened having gone through a substantial renovation. Our 3rd floor room (you have to take one of two flights of stairs, one inside, one outside...no elevator) was large, clean and well-appointed. We had two double beds and a sofa bed. Everything in the room (even the flat-screen TV) appeared to be brand new. AC worked great. There is wireless Internet (which we used) and a small swimming pool (which we didn't have time to use). All of the employees we encountered were amazingly friendly and helpful. We used the inn's golf-cart shuttle to go to the beach (which is about 1/4 mile away). Continental breakfast was not spectacular, but it was adequate: fresh apples & oranges, a variety of cereals, danish pastries, juice, coffee. For the price the inn charges, I can't complain.

We personally like staying at locally-owned, non-chain places. There's more personality. Things were clean, orderly and our entire family kept commenting that if we had the venue, we'd like to let others know about this small gem. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. One of the managers who ferried us to the beach told us that they'd only reopened about two weeks prior to our arrival, and that virtually everything was new; the building had basically been stripped to the walls. New paint, new carpet, new beds, new boardwalks and ramps. Only thing that didn't appear new was the stairs on the north side of the building. I suppose things could go downhill fast, but for us, this was a fantastic place to stay. I wish it could have been longer.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 307, and we didn't see any other rooms. Our room was very quiet. It was kind...

Kent - We are glad you took a gamble on us! Hopefully you can use the pool on your next trip down. I appreciate your kind words and hope that you will stay with us again the next time you come down. Within the next few weeks we should have our new breakfast concept complete which will include hot items and more variety.

We stayed here this past weekend after taking an impromptu visit to the beach. We had no reservation and arrived Friday night at 11 pm, expecting to pay top-dollar for a less-than-stellar room. However, we stumbled onto the Outer Banks inn and were pleasantly surprised. They not only had rooms at a reasonable rate ($149 per night), but the hotel had been newly remodeled and was clean, fresh and lovely. Everything was sparkling clean and brand new. The staff was pleasant, especially the lovely woman who cleaned our room. They had a pool, which we didn't use, and a golf cart to take guests to the beach (even though the beach is only a short walk away). There was ample parking. My only complaint was the noise made by the outer doors closing outside our room. It was loud and obnoxious, as our fellow guests failed to realize that the door slammed shut rather than closed quietly. Make sure you ask for a room in the center of the hallway. All in all, a great find for a spur-of-the-moment trip.

I am glad you were able to enjoy your vacation and appreciate the kind words. I do apologize for the noise the exterior doors made when closing. Our chief engineer has adjusted these doors so they close slower and much more quietly. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We hope to see you again soon.

This is a small, newly renovated property that is a two minute walk to the beach. It's clean, has friendly staff and competitive with rate. We recently vacationed in OBX with two kids and had a great time!

Room Tip: Although no gym on premises, there are passes to the YMCA

My stay at the Outer Banks Inn was most enjoyable. The room was beyond expectations, especially the comfort of the bed. The staff was friendly and eager to please. The location was great, I could walk to the beach with ease. If I didn't want to walk, someone on staff would drive me over. They were knowledgeable of places to shop and eat as well as places to go for entertainment.

Room Tip: Top floor is the best.

My family and I came down to the Outer Banks a day early to beat the traffic and stayed at this hotel the night before we stayed in the place we rented for the week. This hotel was very nice and the service was exceptional. The room was clean and comfortable. It appeared as if the hotel had been newly remodeled or renovated, which was comforting since that would mean the hotel had recently passed an inspection and would be clean. The location was fine, but I couldnt comment on the distance to the beach since we only stayed the night there. I really liked the nice porches that were newly built and the makeup remover wipes that were provided. I liked that there was a microwave, hair dryer, fridge and coffee maker with a variety of cream and sugar and sugar substitutes. The only dislike I had was the AC unit, but i dont like any of those in any place because none of them really regulate the temp of the room properly. I would stay there again.

Beating the traffic was certainly a good idea. The traffic on the weekends (change over days) can be quite frustrating. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I apologize for the AC unit. We strive to clean the filters often and keep them in top working order. I trust you had a wonderful time at your vacation rental and hope to see you again soon.
