Incredible trip. There were 5 of us plus 3 dogs. Barb helped us find shark's teeth, incredible shells and found a private place for the puppies to play.

We took the 2 hour tour. The charge was only $80.00, but I paid her $100. That works out to 10/person/hour for an incredible look at an amazing estuary system and beautiful island.

The kids want to go back next year; and so do we.

Michael

We had a terrific time exploring the Beach with the Pleasant Island Safari. With kids in tow, and no 4-wheel drive vehicle, we wanted some way to escape the more civilized landscape and get the real "feel" of the beach. Riding in the Land Rover was a true experience - bouncing along ruts and over terrain that would have been beyond our reach, let alone driving experience. Our tour guide was fun, upbeat and knowledgeable - able to impart a lot of information about ecology and the seacoast environment without sounding like <yuck> school. For the four of us - $50 was a true bargain and we would do it again in a heartbeat.

In Kure Beach there is a lady who runs a scam called PLEASURE ISLAND SAFARI but it's nothing like what you read on her web page. The lady asked us to meet her at 5:30 pm she was 15 minutes late. We then loaded into her Zebra striped Land Rover that was about 30 years old and wouldn't start untill the third try. We drove about 20 minutes in the un-airconditioned vehicle to a drive on beach that anyone can pay to get on with a 4wheel drive vehicle. She stoped by the sand dunes let us wade in the water then look at the same shells you find on any other beach in North Carolina. Not to mention she drove recklessly on the beach and thought it was funny when my 3 year old bounced off the seat and hit his head on the door. After being on the beach for about 20 minutes she asked if we wanted the trip to be the hour one or 1 1/2 hours long because it was an additional $22.00 for 1/2 an hour on top of the $45.00 for one hour, we decided to head back, so by the time we got back to the spot we meet it had been a total hour my brother went to pay her the $45 out of a $50 and she just pocketed the extra $5 thinking we were tipping her. All in all we basiclly payed someone to watch us pick shells and the only thing SAFARI about the trip was the ELEPHANT LIGHTER i found in the sand.
