“Easter Weekend at Lake Lure, and Chimney Rock”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

The lovely historic Lake Lure Inn& Spa made for a very enjoyable week end. The staff are not only friendly, courteous & helpful. But they make you feel so at home ! The rooms aren't spacious but very adequate. I did not see the suites, but I'm sure they're roomier. Every area is so tastefully decorated. They have a bar and grill as well as a large dining room. WE were very comfortable there. And the sunrise over the mtn. with the lake in view. from atop Chimney Rock was breath taking!!!

We stayed here for two nights in March in connection with a wedding. We had stayed here many years ago, but it has been significantly upgraded since then, and is now similar to a European boutique hotel. This is a place that you stay at to get a feel of history. The setting overlooking Lake Lure is pretty, and there are a lot of restaurants and other attractions in the area. Our room had a nice view of the lake, but was small, with the king bed taking up a good bit of the room. The bathroom was also small, but nicely furnished. When they built the hotel back in 1927, the rooms were probably average size for a country hotel (similar to many old hotels in Europe). We found the staff to be friendly. Because of the wedding festivities, we didn't try the hotel's restaurant, but the menu, wine list, etc. looked good, and it was in an elegant room. There is a nice little bar which in March (off season) has varied hours, and the bartender was fun to talk with. The hotel has a spa, but you don't stay here necessarily for luxury, but more so for the history----the lobby and stair landing furnishings, artwork, etc. and it's worth it just to be part of this history (including being the site of the Dirty Dancing movie).

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a lake view.

Came here for a friend's wedding. Stayed for 4 days. The room was very nice and comfortable.
It had an in-room hot tub, which I think is a bad idea, but some might like it.
Didn't eat in the restaurant, but the reception dinner was catered by the hotel and it was very good.
My only complaint is that the hotel's Wi-Fi was terrible.

This is primarily a review of the hotel's dining room called the Veranda. We were there for the Sunday brunch. It was less than $20 and delicious. It runs from 10:30 to 2:30. There is a good selection of breakfast and lunch items including a salad bar, a custom omelet station, a prime rib and roast turkey carving table and a large assortment of deserts. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. The wait staff was superb. The entire hotel staff, from the manager, desk clerk, maintenance chief to the doorman was very friendly even though we weren't staying there (we met them all). The food selections are changed regularly and a 10% discount is offered to 'locals'. A sample menu is available at the hotel website www.lakelure.com . My favorites were pecan pie (they will warm it if you like), bread pudding, the chocolate fondue fountain, cheese grits (the best) and the pecan chicken and pot roast.

There must be a better option than this!! We attended an early morning function here so decide to stay to save on travel time in the a.m. Big mistake. Very unappealing overpriced room and surley staff. Any charm was completely lost on me as nothing more than dusty knick knacks. Algae filled pool. Only positive was the decent restaurant.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

I came to the Inn for dinner. Had the trout and it was fabulous. Creme brulee was also excellent. The dining room is beautifully decorated and has a working fireplace. Lots of ambience. I can't imagine anyone not loving the dinner experience here. I felt like it was a rare treat and it was reasonably priced. The staff was incredible. They even took me on a quick tour while I was waiting for dinner.

The hotel lobby area wouldn't be for everyone. It initially felt claustrophobic to me with all the historical items. However, there are incredible statues and rare music boxes that make this hotel well worth visiting.

Beautiful hotel full of history! I love historic places and this place definitely has a story!! I stayed in Baby's Bungalow and it was so cozy!!! Updated with tile, perfect size, convenient kitchenette, and a very comfy bed!!! They allowed pets so we felt right at home sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch watching the dogs play and looking at the beautiful lake!
Upon arriving the front desk staff was less than friendly. I asked a few questions about the history and was referred to a book for sale in the gift shop and given no other assistance.
Veranda (restaurant in the main hotel) was great!! We were the first to arrive and they turned on the fireplace for us and welcomed us with open arms. The decor was amazing and made me think of all that must have gone on here in the 1920's. Our waitress, Shae was top notch-she must have training in fine dining!!! VERY professional!!! Food was amazing I took her recommendation and ordered the tuna----ahhhh sooo good!!!
I also visited the spa only for a manicure and pedicure but I received great service. The spa is decorated beautifully and the staff is great. Ashley provided my services-she is very young but very professional and what a great head she has on her shoulders...we should see great things from her!!! I will most certainly go back and receive other services! I look forward to it!

Room Tip: the cabins are worth the extra money!!!!!
