“Five star”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

Really brilliant lodge, excellent staff, delicious food, very comfortable log cabin, stunning views from the dining room. Everything you could ask for at an excellent price. Five star all the way. Only stayed one night but would have loved to stay longer if time had permitted.

Room Tip: Any room would be fine

We've been coming to Big Lynn for 20 yrs and were anxious about the change in ownership 2 yrs ago. Wonderful news! They have continued to upgrade the facilities and have maintained the quality and friendliness. The rooms are comfortable, but not fancy, and include dinner and breakfast. The set menu dinner meals are very good with fresh baked bread and a nice desert. There is a wide choice at breakfast with everything from pancakes and Belgian waffle to eggs, toast and sausage! The views from most of the rooms are great! The lodge is about halfway between Boone and Grandfather Mountain with lots of opportunities for hiking. Burnsville, Spruce Pine, Penland and Bakersville are close enough to visit and see the local crafts. We plan to continue returning for many years to come.

Room Tip: With the exception of the parkway "motel" units. All have an excellent or above average vi...

We came to Big Lynn Lodge yearly in the mid to late 90's and early 2000's. Time had gotten away from us, and we decided to return for a couple of days this August. It is still a wonderful place. It is located right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and there are many activities within close proximity, but Big Lynn itself is quiet, peaceful, and a real treat. The view is beautiful! If you need elegance and up-to-date amenities, then this is not the place for you. But if you appreciate the simpler things in life and your heart draws you to the mountains, then give Big Lynn Lodge a try.

We stumbled upon this place by chance. At first we thought it was pricey until we learned that the price included dinner and breakfast. The staff was very friendly. The food was excellent. The place is biker friendly (regular bikers, not obnoxious bikers) We had a nice evening relaxing in the rocking chairs on the porch. The TV in our room didn't work but we weren't there long enough to need the TV. We weren't there on laundry day but it was nice to know they have one.

Celebrated my wife's birthday with a surprise stay at Big Lynn Lodge. Everyone from the owners to the waitress were so courteous and helpful. Even surprised her with a piece of chocolate cake with a candle and a staff rendition of "Happy Birthday". As others have said, the lodge is old, built sometime in the 1930s I think, but it is beautifully maintained and our cabin was spotless. The view from the rockers on the porch of cabin 114 can not even be described. My wife's final comment on the way home was "Can we do this again soon?" Enough said?

This place will bring back memories of days gone by with the Mom & Pop atmosphere! The owner, Hoyt, is a true example of an Inn Keeper! We arrived late on a rainy evening. We were tired, hungry, wet bikers! It was well after the dinner hour, but Hoyt made sure that we had home made turkey sandwiches, chips, drinks and home made apple pie that he made himself! The rooms were small, but very clean and updated with new bedding and thick towels. The knotty pine walls gave a homey feeling to some tired travelers as we were! The next morning, we were treated to a wonderful breakfast (included in the room fee) with a spectacular view of the mountainside from the dining room windows. The red rocking chairs on the porches provided a comfortable relaxing feel. We would absolutely 100% recommend this motel for the weary traveler or for just a relaxing get away in the mountains. Do not expect a swimming pool, a game room and all the modern stuff.....this motel will help you slow down and appreciate the word "relaxation"!

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain side room for a spectacular view

Our stay at Big Lynn Lodge was very enjoyable--had cabin number 101 which just had the most perfect view from the front porch with 2 comfortable rocking chairs. Breakfast is made to order and had the very best pancakes and waffles. Dinner was good and had a great help me made desert each night. You know when b'fast and dinner at s ready when the dinner bell rings--feel like a kd again. Met many pleasant fellow travelers as they passed by our cabin each night. Easy to find just off the Blue Ridge Pkway--will return whenever we can--try it.

Room Tip: Take time to call ahead if possible to let the front desk personnel help you
