Review of Stompin' Ground

Stompin' Ground
Reviewed 1 November 2013

my husband and I went to the Stompin' Ground to watch our two granddaughters in a clogging competition. The sound system is great, just bring earplugs, in case you are seated next to the huge speakers. We had a blast watching the competitors. However...restrooms and food service needs upgrading, updating. They charged us 10 dollars per head to watch the contest, and i am guessing there were well over 600-800 people in the building at any given time, mostly women and girls. One very old women's bathroom in the front of the building, with a couple of porta-potties out back does not make for very pleasant experience. The competition lasted all day, and into the night,so i can only imagine what the restroom looked like atthe end of that day. they did have an attendant, but she was struggling to keep up with the crowds. The food was marginal, purely sustenance for a long day of competition viewing. I hope this venue stays open and thriving, and I hope that the owners will take care of a few details to make it even better.

The Stompin' Ground in the heart of Maggie Valley is a amazing venue to dance the night away! We went there on a Saturday evening in July and enjoyed watching the cloggers and traditional mountain dancers. The Band was fabulous! It's a big, arena style place, with good views of the huge dance floor from all seats. This is a great place for all ages!

We had an absolutely delightful experience at the Stompin’ Ground on Saturday June 30, 2013.

For those who are unfamiliar, the building is located in Maggie Valley, and is open Saturday nights only. They have live music, mainly bluegrass and gospel style, along with dancing. Our daughters ages 8 and 7 had a wonderful time there, and danced to their hearts’ content. The patrons were very friendly (many senior citizens and cloggers), and we were absolutely delighted to find that a place like this still exists. Walking into the Stompin’ Ground is like taking a step back in time, to a simpler age. If, like us, you are trying to teach your children wholesome values and that there is a world beyond computers, video games and ear-piercing Justin Bieber songs, then you will greatly enjoy the atmosphere here. The band was amazing, the dance floor was huge, and they played such great nostalgic bluegrass/country songs. There were even some demonstrations from a competition clogging group (which my daughters loved) and there were many chances for audience participation if you aren’t shy (don’t miss the Broom Dance!)

Overall, we wish there were more places like this for us to take our kids. Just as a word of warning, however, this is an alcohol-free event and the snack bar is fairly limited, so make sure you get whatever adult beverages consumed and dinner eaten before you arrive. It is actually pretty refreshing to have a place that has such old-fashioned values and atmosphere, and we hope that The Stompin’ Ground is around for a long time to come.

We can’t wait to return in the Fall.

This is a great place to enjoy bluegrass and country music. There are clogging groups there and they try to include the audience. you can learn a few dances and will have a last if you arent shy! It is dusty and the gift shop needs to be removed. The snack bar offers a few snacks, not a meal.

No place to sit. No refunds. No assistance from staff to find seats or enforce no saved seats rule. Continued to charge people well aware there were no seats available. Greed obviously moviation of management.
