My long review was placed under the lodge section, but we only went for dinner and did not stay there. Do yourself a favor and book dinner here if you want impeccable, friendly service and a freshly made meal that was absolutely delicious from start to finish. Ginger will let you know when she is cooking next and what they will be serving as it is all family style. The views from their super long porch at 4500 ft are spectacular and it is a perfect place for your pre dinner drink. ( BYOB). Don't miss out on this hidden gem of a place hidden up the mountain,

Where to begin as there is so much going on at Smoky Shadows! To start, you enter the rustic and quaint atmosphere of this 100+ year old stone & log lodge which boasts a vaulted ceiling great room with a huge stone fireplace. The covered back porch off the great room with rocking chairs, porch swing and mountain view is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a glass of your favorite beverage while you wait for supper to announced. Supper is served family style but the food is anything but average. Chef Tracy works to create a perfect balance of delicious dishes that will satisfy both in quantity and quality. Of course her mother, Ms. Ginger is the matriarch of this beautiful and long standing establishment and she will gladly share stories of her time spent here as a child where she dreamed of someday owning this lodge herself.

My first visit after hearing about it for years. Sorry I waited so long. The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff and guests were so friendly and the food was outstanding. A wonderful experience and I've already made reservations to go again. Fabulous.

I wish I had discovered this place sooner. The lodge is at the end of long a winding mountain road overlooking Maggie Valley. It's definitely very rustic and absolutely charming. The buildings are authentic and are not new so it explains the spartan comfort. It's not for people who are interested in comfort and luxury but for those who prefer places with character and history. It's like a museum inside with all the artifacts and old curios. The peaceful surroundings and the lovely view make it a very special place. The service is friendly, and you're made to feel like family. We did not dine there as the restaurant is only open on certain days during the low season, but we did have breakfast, fresh local fruit and good bread served with a friendly smile. I can't wait to go back there again and watch the hummingbirds and enjoy the beautiful quiet.

This was one of the best meal experiences I've had! It wasn't just the meal, it was the ambiance and the company, and the cozy setting. It was like having a group of strangers gather around for a big Sunday dinner at my Grandma's house, and leave feeling almost like family. It was so relaxing and laid back to pass around the big bowl of corn or hand over the basket of bread...and thank goodness that Mrs. Ginger had extra tomato pies on hand! Her daughter and grandson were great, and I appreciate all they did to make our evening special!
Mrs.Ginger sat at the head of the table like a matriarch retelling some stories that made me want to have a recorder so they could be saved and shared with the next generations to come.
A special thank you to Mrs. Barbara for introducing me to Mrs. Ginger and bringing me into the Smokey Shadows Lodge.
