Murphy / Peace Valley KOA
Reviewed 31 July 2014

This was not really our kind of campground. There wasn't much for the kids to do here and it was very dirty (muddy) and brown. We prefer green campsites with grass and more kid oriented activities. I didn't like that our tent was so close to the river and the kids (2 & 11) didn't enjoy the site so we only stayed 1 night...

Room Tip: All the tent sites seemed to be shaded by trees & were all backed by the river.

We're sorry this was not enjoyable to your family, Amaya or Tiffany. We're not sure why the kids did not take advantage of our swimming pool, playground, horse shoes, volleyball, sand box, game room, tubing, or fishing. Our Tent Sites are next to the calm Valley River. Unfortunately, you had not visited or called us prior to making your Tent camping reservation online. We do indicate online the Tent sites are next to the river, which is very attractive to many folks. Unfortunately it had rained the morning you arrived, which would have been the only reason the tent area 'seemed' dirty or muddy. We would have happily relocated your family to a different area of the Campground had we been aware of your concerns.

We enjoy this area of the mountains for whitewater rafting as well as the historic downtown shopping areas. We decided on the PeaceValley/KOA for a number of reasons. The first I already stated : location, location, location. Second, We know what to expect at a KOA. We were not in the mood to be adventurous when choosing a campground. This campground offers a clean, well kept swimming pool, it offers river access for tubing, fishing and general play, a playground, horseshoes and a large game room. There is a large pet run with seating/shade for adults. And third, The sites on the river are comfortably spaced but the pull thru sites offer more privacy. The sites are gravel and level. When purchased at the store, bags of ice or firewood were delivered to your site. We used the laundry which was clean as were the bath houses. The store was basic. I love a well stocked camping store so I was slightly disappointed. Visit downtown Murphy for your souvenirs.

Room Tip: The entrance to the KOA is a sharp right turn (coming from Murphy!) Slowly approach!

Just got back from another wonderful weekend at Peace Valley Koa. Found this campground about 5 yrs ago and go at least 2 times a year. Most sites are either pull thru or easily accessible back in. The creek sites can be a challenge if not good at backing. The staff is GREAT! Matt the owner has a really great group that work there. They offer tubing a game room and a pool. Also have a large area that offers horse shoes volleyball and tether ball.Bath houses are clean as well as the laundry area.I definitely recommend this campground if your staying anywhere close to the Murphy Nc area!
