Papa and Nana took our daughter and 3 grandsons (6 of us, ages 64 to 10) for the first time horse back riding (we old timers had ridden before). You are greeted by a very friendly, knowledgeable and gentle staff. There are two adult guides who are experts of the area as well as knowledgeable horsemanship (ridden horses their whole lives, use their own horses), always giving watchful guidance and tremendous humor! They match you with a horse depending on your experience and size. Saddle bags are provided (as well as bottled water) for cameras, cell phones, etc. Helmets are also provided and they carry every size that you would need. We rode for an hour, stopped to go gem hunting (with success) in a collapsed old mine for garnets and then an hour back! Extra thrill...WOW for the gem mining! The scenery was breath taking and tranquil inclusive of cattle, sheep, valleys and mountains. The trail ride is exciting as there is plenty of up hill, down hill, meandering streams, quiet valleys and some steep trails peering down on quiet bubbling brooks. The word BORING never was never even considered by our grandchildren! This is worth your time and consideration as this was a warm and gentle experience reliving the beauty and heritage of the mountains of North Carolina.
