Making the drive from Atlanta to DC more times than I can count we opted to get off the interstates and see some of the countryside. It was a good choice! Of course it took longer but we had the time. I plotted our route and researched restaurants in the towns along the way on Tripadvisor. No fast food places if we could avoid them and that brought us to Mocksville, NC at dinnertime. We chose Restaurant 101 and were happy we did. It's in an old building on the courthouse square with all the vintage charm. Our server was Jessica (I sure hope I remembered her name correctly) and she was a doll. Personality plus and very accommodating! I wanted the sauce with my shrimp and grits on the side since it's spicy. No problem! She recommended Red Oak beer - terrific. The salad with blue cheese dressing was definitely made in house - big chunks of cheese, creamy, but not too much vinegar if any. Back to the shrimp and grits - delicious and big serving. My husband had the ribs and his only comment is that he likes his rib with a little chew on the bone to them and these do fall off the bone but still tasty. The onion rings, also made in house, were delicious. Too full for dessert but tempted. And from the crowd that was there on a Wednesday night it seems others concur with my impressions of 101. Would love to return if in the area.
