Driving home from Myrtle Beach to Canada decided to stop over in OBX for a night. Booked via a last minute website and got room for $35. When we got there the outside looked a little rough around the edges and at check-in asked for a upgrade to King Size room and got it for an extra $13. There is a sign in the lobby saying they are doing renos and making improvements (which is good because the hotel does look like it needs it).
The room was okay, but needed work in the bathroom. Had a leaky drain on the bathroom sink and we needed to put the ice bucket under to catch the dripping. The mini-fridge had broken legs and leaned forward so that the door rubbed on the floor. The bed was king size and no too bad but is probably due for replacement soon. They give you 4 pillows (two firm and two medium support) and they were awesome. The jacuzzi tub in the room worked fine. The windows of the room were so dirty on the outside you could barely see out of them.
Free hot breakfast was nothing to write home about. The breakfast area needed a good cleaning (as did the rest of the hotel) but I guess with renos going on they are not doing much. Breakfast was waffles, bagels, muffins, no toast, coffee, scrambled eggs.
Staff was nice and very friendly, but once the renos are done and the place gets a good cleaning it should be better. I guess being on a sandbar the sand gets everyplace and carpets and such all have sand in them. But for the price it was fine for a one nighter.
