“Annual dinner- out at the Outer Banks”
Reviewed 11 September 2008

We come to Kelly's every September when visiting the Outer Banks. The quality of service and variety of creative cuisine has consistently been excellent. Tonight was no exception. Our server, Lisa, was professional and helpful in our menu choices. The chefs made 3 very tasty and unique seafood meals and my non seafood lover husband was very happy with the London Broil. The sauces and cucumber salsa added to the flavors of our seafood. Relaxing, quiet dinner time environment, linen cloths, nice decor! Can't wait for next year already.

“Wonderful fish”
Reviewed 27 May 2008

We had a delightful meal at Kelly's. I had the flounder with cucumber salsa -- excellent. My friends had the seafood platter and another flouder dish. Huge portions! Menu items ranged from $19-30 -- including bread, salad, veggies and starch. Drinks were reasonably priced -- $6 for Jack and Vodka drinks. Our server was great. The only thing that we did not like about the experience (cannot say one bad thing about the food!) -- there is a bar/dance club located within the facility -- we had a late dinner around 9pm. Apparently this is when the club starts up. While I feel I am young and hip -- I could have done without the Little John blasting in the background during my meal.

“Inconsistent at best”
Reviewed 16 April 2008

My friends and I were in Nags Head April 10th for a girls' weekend, and researched the internet for a good place to grab dinner on our first night in the area. There were several good options, but we chose Kelly's because it was close by our rental house, and they were advertising Ladies' Night specials - "MMMM-Margaritas, Martinis, Manicures, Massages" from 6:30-8pm.Perfect! Exactly what we were looking for.
Unfortunately, when we arrived, the hostess had no idea what was going on, whether or not they had the manicures and massages set up, when the DJ was coming, etc. As it turned out, that special ended two weeks ago and were never taken off the website. (After our complaining, they have since updated their site.)
The waitress we had treated us rudely and with contempt. She arrived with an attitude that got worse as the evening wore on. She rolled her eyes at our requests, huffed when we asked questions, and snapped at us because we were not happy with one of the orders. The only time she was nice was when she was telling us about other bars in town we should go to! Odd behavior considering we were the only patrons in the dining area of the Tavern.
The menu is apprently out of date - the chili nachos don't actually come with chili, and haven't for at least 2 years according to the waitress (which we found out AFTER we got them and started eating), plu she said there are 5 or 6 other items on the menu they never carry. When asked why it was still on the menu, the waitress snapped-"There's no telling Mike Kelly (the owner) anything. He does whatever he wants."
So no massages, manicures or nachos. There was bad 70s elevator music being piped in to boot. Fortunately, the bartender who served us earlier had stopped by to see if we needed anything, and felt so bad about everything she offered us free drinks to make up for the massges and manicures, and some calamari to replace the nachos. She salvaged the evening. I will say the calamari and gyros that we did eat were very tasty.
Overall it was a really bizarre experience. I have never been treated so badly by a waitress, especially on a very slow night, and I have never seen such a large restaurant so badly run. As a group of 5 women in our 30s on vacation together, we could easily have dropped $75 each on drinks and food, but didn't because of the service and the attitude of the management. If it weren't for Kat, our bartender, and DJ Fresh, who showed up around 8:30 to play real music, the whole evening would have been a nightmare, and I would have rated this restaurant as "terrible". If you go, you might want to avoid the Tavern area and go to the restaurant area unless you're only there to drink and dance.
