This has always been one of our favorites because of the atmosphere, service and food. We had our traditional pre-Thanksgiving dinner for our family. The lobster trifecta is always outstanding, as is the crab stack. Michelle is attentive and helpful. This is a quiet restaurant, which we prefer. Truly a gem.

Had dinner here for our anniversary and loved it. Our meals were excellent and the atmosphere was cozy. After dinner we enjoyed our evening in the bar located in the basement of the Mansion. The bartender was great and created an excellent drink when i asked him to be creative with a few requested ingredeints. Really cool place for history buffs or just someone looking for a great meal. Will definitely return.

We have dined here in the past and thought we would try it again for a birthday celebration. Called and left a message for a reservation indicating that it was for a birthday, and requested a nice quiet table. Arrived early and the parking lot was full so we ended up parking about a block and a half away. Found out later that the cars parked in their lot were for another event at the convention center. What? No one at the restaurant "managing" their own parking lot for their own customers? We were then seated in a small room with other diners and it was pretty noisy. Granted, this is an old house converted into a restaurant and the acoustics are very bad...pity they can't add tapestry to the walls to absorb the sound. Wine, appetizers, meal ordered....and the food was good. The waitress was efficient; however, she failed to offer any bread w/the meal and she was clueless that this was for a birthday - although I specifically mentioned in when I called. When the bill came I was shocked that she had added an 18% tip to the total "as a suggested tip". There were only 2 of us not a table of 10! We weren't dressed like street people who she may have thought might stiff her!

Overall the food was fine but very pricey...the service was just barely average for an establishment of that caliber...the atmosphere noisy...and the overall experience disappointing. I doubt we will be back.

My husband and I has dinner at The Harvey Mansion this past weekend. Based on the reviews we were excited and expected a wonderful dining experience and meal. It was a bit of a dissapointment. We started with the calamari appetizer which was drenched in some sort of a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce. It just seemed odd to us to pair those two types of flavors and it was just too sweet. I had the lobster tail special and the lobster just tasted bland. My husband tasted it and said the same thing. There was no "wow" factor at all to this meal. Our drinks were okay, a little too much olive juice in the diry martinis for our liking and my husband's meal the lamb was nothing extraordinary, he even commented that they may have used the same barbecue type sauce that was on the calamari for the lamb. We are not the type of people to complain or cause a fuss so we politely said everything was fine and paid our tab. The best thing about the meal was our server who was wonderful. Based on the reviews we were hoping we were going to be really impressed unfortunately the road side barbecue joint we ate at for lunch earlier that day was more so.

On an overnight stop in New Bern we were passing the Harvey Mansion and stopped to look at the menu. We were in time for the early-bird menu (5-6:30 pm), which had ten entrees to choose from for $14.99.

Meals are served in a cosy and intimate dining room in this historic house. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.

As we don't often seem to see lamb on menus in the US, we all chose the lamb shanks which had been slow-cooked to perfection. The restaurant also has a good wine list. We all felt that our meal was good value for money and wouldn't hesitate to eat there again.
