“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014

We stayed here a weekend ago for a weekend away for Mom and Dad and we were planning an event in New Bern for our Alfa car club. Michael helped us out making plans and giving us restaurant and locations to check out in the city. Marty cooks a fabulous breakfast and I recommend the popeye and Olive oyl omelet. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the decor is upscale country exactly what you would expect from this type of establishment.

We really enjoyed it and will return in december

My husband & I went as an anniversary/Christmas present for each other for a couple of nights. The B&B was beautiful! We booked the Duck room, however, they gave us a free upgrade upon arrival to the Tuscarora. This room was perfect and a wonderful size! The bed was like sleeping in a cloud and the sheets were so wonderful that we ended up purchasing a set for us to take home. I can't say enough for customer service. They already had a list of restaurants that would be open on Christmas Eve and ready to make reservations and set things up for us at a moments notice. The social hour was nice as well, since most people were out during social hour on Christmas Eve they brought a bottle of wine and snacks up to our room for us to enjoy in privacy.

The breakfast was delicious and prepared fresh to order. They also had complimentary beverages (non alcoholic) and coffee available to their guests at all times.

Also, the B&B was in a perfect location to walk to all the sights in town. We never had to move our car once.

Room Tip: You really couldn't go wrong with any of the rooms. The Basin Street room seemed a tad small, ho...

I took my husband to New Bern, NC, on a mystery weekend. Owners Michael & Marty Gunhus helped me plan our adventure by coordinating their Couples Spa Getaway Package to our specific time frames. With their help, we enjoyed a morning massage in our room, a horse-drawn carriage tour on the way to Friday's dinner reservation, a tour of New Bern's historic district in Michael's 1929 Model A Ford on the way to Saturday's dinner. The Gunhus' are master B&B proprietors....they owned a B&B for 8 years in California before purchasing the Aerie 11 years ago. The Victorian decor is a passion as are beautiful Christmas decorations inside & outside the house. Their other passion is customer service - all you need do is ask! Marty prepares a superb, magnificently presented choice of breakfasts that changes daily, while Michael and their staff serve the guests. During the afternoon happy hour in their parlor, guests meet each other over wine and appetizers. Our room overlooked the street, but I was amazed at how quiet it was during the night. We also enjoyed meeting the staff, nicknamed the Mother Fluffers. The rooms/bathrooms are spotless and they fluff the pillow-top mattresses daily...they are a fun group of ladies! I look forward to staying again at the Aerie during a spring visit with some girlfriends!

Room Tip: Kennebec room is large enough to allow for a couple to each get a massage at the same time - highly...

My husband and I were married at the Aerie Guest House and Conference Centre a little over two weeks ago. We opted for the Orchid package, which included two nights bed and breakfast in the sumptuous King George Suite, as well as a 3 hour hors 'd ouvres and champagne reception for 30 people. A small cake by Ali Smith Cake Designs, one hour of photography and the minister's fee was also included. We opted to have our wedding indoors to lend our ceremony a greater sense of formality and intimacy. This was the perfect choice for us, but be clear about the fact you want it indoors, if that is your preference. The courtyard and garden area outside was used as a space for the toasts, while the living room and small entrance hall / anteroom used to serve the canapes and as a space for people to sit, relax and mingle. We could not have been happier with our choice of venue. Marty Gunhus created a truly beautiful and elegant white wedding for us, utilizing the space perfectly, and ensuring that the Aerie was transformed into a memorable venue for an intimate, tasteful ceremony and reception. The canapes were not only delectable, but very well presented, and our breakfast was outstanding. The attention to detail that Marty and Michael Gunhus show proves that they are experienced and highly professional hosts who work very hard to maintain the Aerie's reputation as a premier B and B. Do be advised, however, that the Ochid package is for 20 people, not 30. More than the stated number of guests can create problems due to space constraints, and will incur an extra fee per head. Also note that the champagne included is for the toast only and you will be charged extra per bottle. We had to ask for another bottle when we saw guests sitting with nothing to drink. Therefore be absolutely sure to establish how many bottles will be included with your package and at what cost before your event, if you do not wish your guests to sip on one to one a half glasses for the duration of the reception. Aside from being slightly misled on the drinks front, the Aerie is a place where the owners will exceed your expectations for a truly beautiful and intimate wedding that is relatively hassle free.

This was our third visit. The house is unique and the rooms very accommodating. However, it is the grace and hospitality extended by Marty and Michael that you'll remember most. Breakfast was excellent and well presented. We would not hesitate to recommend the aerie to family and friends.

What a wonderful place to stay overnight! Breakfast was lovely! The innkeepers Mike and Marty and Liz made us feel right at home, the social hr with wine and appetizers was a cozy way to get to know fellow travelers, and to top it all off, Marty made our dinner reservation that evening for us! Will return again!

Room Tip: Basin St rm was small, but fine for overnight-the tiled walkin shower with all the jets made up for...

When we were looking for a place for a long weekend retreat, Marty sold us on the New Bern GhostWalk. We were enchanted! The Inn was so well located to all the goings on for the GhostWalk weekend. We learned so much about the area. We could not have asked for more wonderful accommodations and the breakfast was fabulous. Marty and Michael (and Banjo) treated us as old friends. We had never visited New Bern before. Now, we know we'll come back again.

Room Tip: Even the smaller rooms were pretty large. If bathrooms are important, the rooms in the guest house s...
