“A Delightful Bed & Breakfast in a Charming and Historic Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2006

The Aerie Inn Bed & Breakfast in New Bern provided a wonderful experience while visiting this charming and historic town with the friendliest and nicest people one can ever meet.

It offers true hospitality and excellence in every respect. One half is the physical aspect. The inn is immaculate and the furnishings exquisite. The bedding is great. The location is right in the heart of the historic district within minutes walk to the trolley tour, Tryon Palace, and historic homes, as well as restaurants and the waterfront. It has off-street parking in the rear, but you won't have to drive while staying here.

The other half of the experience is breakfast. Unbelievably delicious and beautifully presented, breakfast consist s of a "starter" and a choice of three main dishes. The best pancakes and omelettes ever.

But other distinguishing factors contribute just as much to making this inn very special. Marty and Michael, as innkeepers and hosts, are just perfect; friendly, most accommodating and gracious without being pretentious or overbearing. It is evident that they love what they do.

And the "little things" that add a lot to your comfort and enjoyment. . . Coffee & tea available as of 6:30AM for early risers; a complimentary wine-and-cheese hour which provided stimulating conversation with other guests, and 24-hour complimentary access to a refrigerator stocked with water bottles and sodas. There is also a library of books and movies for the guests.

After being turned off by other B&B experiences, the Aerie Inn was a wonderful surprise and a sheer delight!

Trust me, it doesn't get any better than this! My husband drove from Boston to Charleston and New Bern looked like a lovely town to explore and spend the night. We couldn't have made a better choice. The town itself is charming...a throwback to the 50's and the Tryon Palace was within walking distance of the Inn. It was the best B & B we have ever stayed in. Michael and Marty are the perfect hosts and thought of everything from a beautiful room (the Kennebec) with plush bedding and comfy bathrobes, to an afternoon complementary beverage and snack hour, and a fabulous breakfast we won't soon forget! They are also very helpful with restaurant recommendations. They deserve all the praise other reviewers have shared. You won't be disappointed! We would go back in a heartbeat...we just wish it was in New England.

My husband and I just returned from 3 wonderful nights at the Aerie Inn. This historic old home was immaculate. The hosts (Marty and Michael) anticipate their guests' every need, and offer extensive information about places to go and things to see in coastal NC. The breakfasts were marvelous. Each one begins with a starter served elegantly in a small parfait glass followed by a choice of 3 scrumptious breakfast entrees. Each evening our hosts offer their guests appetizers and a choice of lemonade or wine served in the parlor or outside in the courtyard. We certainly plan to return.

We were two couples from N.Y. and N.J. looking for property. We were so glad we decided on the Aerie Inn...which tripadvisor helped with that decision. From the moment we walked into the lovely house and met the charming and delightful hosts Michael and Marty..I knew we made the right choice! They gave us great advise from restaurants to different areas in and around New Bern. Love the evening cocktail hour thought it might be corny but was really a great way to meet new people. We stayed in the Kennebec Room and thought it was, lovely and very romantic..would stay in here again but really have a goal to stay in each room. Our friends stayed in the Carolina room which was very roomy and quite pretty, theres had a larger bathroom so if your high maintence this bathroom was for you! Can't finish this review up without mentioning the best breakfast ever...Food was out of this world and the coffee was fantastic. Coffee is big on my list so if your into coffee this is the place to be! Really enjoyed our great stay and can't wait to come back!

We were so happy we choose the Aerie Inn for our four day stay in New Bern. We were very central to downtown, Tryon Palace and the freeway to further sight see to the beach.

Breakfast was the best out of the 50 or more b&b's I've stayed at in my life! We loved getting to choose from the menu in the morning. I was amazed at the quality and care that went into breakfast all four mornings. The selection of juices and beverages changed daily along with the first course and the entire menu!! I was amazed.

Michael and Marty are truly the perfect hosts; always cheerful, helpful and caring towards their guests. We really appreciated the hospitality, clean accommodations and great weather!

This was the best B&B we have stayed at. It was very clean and the breakfast was good. There is a gathering in the living room at 5:30 each day where you can meet others that are staying there.

My husband and I were only passing through New Bern and wanted to get a feel for the historic district. Friends of ours from Edenton, NC had stayed at the Aerie Inn and recommended it to us. Here I might mention that we do not usually stay in a B&B preferring the annonymity of hotels. However, we decided to give the Aerie Inn a try as it is within easy walking distance of the main part of the town.

We never - even for one moment - regretted our decision. From the moment we were welcomed at the front door, Marty and Michael were so gracious and welcoming that we felt at home. The Inn is beautiful and spotless. We were given a tour of the available rooms and chose the very large, beautiful and bright "Carolina Room" with a king-size bed, fireplace and its own bath. This room is at the bottom of the stairs right next to the front door and the common/living room.

After settling in, we were treated to refreshments and conversation before walking to town for dinner. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll after dinner and returned to a very quiet inn. Next to our bed was a machine that played soothing sounds to sing one to sleep but we must not have needed it as we fell asleep and were so comfortable that we never heard the train that came through during the night! This definitely was a comfortable room as we slept just as well the next night.

My all-important 1st cup of morning coffee was waiting for me in the dining room. Breakfast later on was a choice of three: omlette (my choice), pancakes or french toast, and bacon. First was a small but delicious baked fruit compote and juice. This was a delicious and beautifully presented breakfast. However, I do like oatmeal and asked if I could have it the next morning. I did and it, too, was delicious and beautiful fruit along with it.

We truly were sad to leave and would have liked to stay for at least a week. We like to explore places and there are lots of things to see and enjoy both within walking distance and outside of town. I forgot to mention that private parking for our car was just behind the inn.

I heartily recommend this B&B and wish the owners well. I believe they are not only wonderful innkeepers but wonderful folks as well.
