We visited New Bern in mid-May for a quick weekend getaway. One of the dilemmas we faced was dining spots. New Bern has plenty to choose from. One of our lunch picks was Morgan’s Tavern & Grill on Craven Street. And, it certainly was a good pick. Morgan’s offers a broad selection of dishes and serves up large portions. Take your pick: pasta, shrimp burgers, grilled meatloaf, barbequed chicken, grilled tuna . . . and a lot more. It’s all creatively prepared and presented. Service was friendly and, for the most, prompt. Our waitress was a bit slack in checking on us and we did have to flag her down for drink refills. Morgan’s atmosphere has the feel of an old colonial tavern. If the place is hopping as it was on our visit the bar area is an enjoyable place to wait for your table. All in all, you’ll find Morgan’s a good dining spot in the historic downtown area.
