Kinda missed talking fishing with that LG fellow until some girl told me the whole story on him, sounds pretty scary if true! I don't guess I'll see that 50 bucks he said he'd pay me back when I came back this year. This is the same guy who opened our door last year (with a key) around 6:00 one night and said he had to check something electrical, but he wouldn't say exactly what! He didn't knock at all, plus we should be notified before he came up to our room. Girl told my wife this year that he only cuts your grass somebody needs to look into this matter, the more I think about it he was up to no good just walking in our room like that, he didn't think anyone was home plus he was on something

I read some of the negative reviews and realized that those people may have been expecting the motel to be their main experience at the beach. I have stayed at high end all the way to the other end of the spectrum. This motel is Ideal for a beach stay. This area is like the earlier times beach experience, not a luxurious resort. Great for fishing and kicking back. The Motel is clean, rooms are spacious. Nice restaurant and helpful staff. Great location, you can fish here or drive a short distance up the strand to a larger pier. To me it is pretty much what you expect from a "beach motel". Will definately stay here again. Great view with real beach atmosphere.

Room Tip: Rooms at back looking over ICW best view with benches to set and relax.

Having read some of the earlier negative reviews, I wondered if we stayed at the same place! We spent 2 nights at BlueWater Point Motel in Dec 2012 and had a blast!! It is a beautiful place; the room we stayed in is large, 2 double beds, comfortable chairs- plus a color TV with cable! And a remote! The room also had a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffee maker complete with coffee. Most importantly, the place was clean. Not only clean, it was spotless!! A previous review complained about the many sand buckets for cigarette butts and maybe they were used- but we didn't see any butts on the grounds. No trash outside either. We had access to wireless Internet; there is an ice machine in the office- the pool was closed when we were there but it looked inviting! Plenty of parking; an on-site laundry although there is a charge for the room key; and the motel location is the best on the island. I had to laugh at one reviewer who complained about the width of the beach- she must have been there at high tide! The beach area is absolutely beautiful! The motel has built a walkway to the beach, and the town of Oak Island has built a wonderful beach access. If there is someone in your family who is wheel chair dependent, you will love the covered shelter for wheel chair patrons- it is right on beach level with an unobstructed view of the ocean!
Now for the comments on the management of BlueWater Point. We dealt with the general manager, Capt. Sid Merrill. When we explained we would be arriving late, he told us where he would leave the key and also gave us his cell phone number so we could call if we had any problems. Since we had never stayed here, he asked what kind of view we would like and gave us a room with a view of the marina. He was very polite when we checked in, assured us he was there if we needed anything, and he couldn't have been nicer!
One more point should be addressed- reviewers have complained that there isn't "anything to do" on Oak Island. If you mean there aren't strip clubs and bars, you are right. This is a family oriented beach. There is plenty to do- both on Oak Island and in nearby Southport. There are fine restaurants and fast food joints. Grocery stores are plentiful and there is even a WalMart in the area. But those reviews belong on another page and have nothing to do with BlueWater Point. This is a nice motel, with amenities aplenty for the family. Fish from the motel bulkhead. Rent a kayak and explore the Big Davis Canal. Walk on the beach and look for sharks teeth. Turn the TV off and take your kids exploring. And then come back to a nice clean room and get a good night's sleep. And then get up early the next morning and do it all over again. Build memories with your kids, and enjoy BlueWater Point Motel and Marina!!

Room Tip: Views from the upstairs rooms are the best!

We are very sorry you feel this way, Management did address the issue once it was brought to our attention. We do crimal checks on ALL of our employees and would not employee ANY that would steal.
The person that approached your child was not an employee, she was a guest.

We do have a sign posted with a phone number on it at the front desk, when we go to the laundry room. Employees dont stay in the laundry room more that 10min. and always checks the desk and messages when they return.

You were offered the remainder of your stay to be refunded, your family decided to stay and invited more family to stay in your room with you the last 2 nights and was not charged. I DON'T FEEL YOU WERE MISS TREATED AND OUR STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND ACCOMMODATING.

Its an older motel that certainly isnt fancy but the things that mattered most (good A/C, clean sheets, comfortable bed, good water pressure in the shower) were all up to snuff. People that run the place were friendly and helpful. The onsite pool is only 4 ft deep and is pretty small. Luckily you have easy access to the ocean just across the road. We had a nice time here and would certainly stay here again if we made it back out this way.

I'm not sure if the other reviewers who gave this place an excellent rating have ever stayed in a motel before, but this property is not great. The rooms are painfully outdated and uncomfortable. The carpets are worn and dirty. (yes it's a beach motel but this was more than that) The beds are terribly uncomfortable and the pillows are encased in plastic. I'm not going to go on and on about it, just understand that the accommodations are terrible.

The location is great, and if you have a boat you could book a room here and sleep on the boat. The beach is walkable and is decent, but is very narrow down at this end of the Island. The pool is small but open late. The observation deck on either side of the upper level has some plastic lounges on it and was really the best part of the stay because there was somewhere comfortable to sit and chill at the end of the day that wasn't the room.

Do not stay here. If budget is your reason to consider this hotel, save up more money, have a garage sale, donate plasma, do whatever you have to do to stay anywhere else. This motel was $15 more expensive than the Quality Inn & Suites we stayed at in Gatlinburg on the way down and I will never stay here again.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

We stayed here after reading many favorable reviews. We went in knowing all its faults. The motel is older and definitely needs updating. Our A/C was not working the night we arrived and the management moved us to another room, but back to the same room the next morning and the A/C was working. There are buckets with sand for smokers everywhere and they are well-used.... The beach is beautiful and very close. The pool is small. There is fishing off the pier. The restaurant onsite is really good but gets very crowded on weekends. We wanted to experience Oak Island... we have. If we come back, we'd definitely rent a house -- rentals were everywhere!

Room Tip: Ask for view of the marina, not the parking lot.
