Stayed here in July for 3 nights for a weekend wedding. The location is great. We chose this location due to the excellent reviews. Unfortunately, we were VERY disappointed. We booked a non-ocean front room, which we later learned meant a lot of other down-grades as well. We were placed in the green roofed building, which is separate from the building where you check in with the red roof. Most of the promotional pictures use the building with the red roof, which is nicer. When we walked in to our room, the first thing we were greeted by was the smoke alarm having been ripped out of the wall. The TV mounted on the wall was nice and new, but had obviously not been cleaned because it looked like someone had wiped a greasy hand all over the screen. The bathtub had mold in it. There was hair in the tub prior to using it. We also found a popsicle stick on the floor near the trash can. The bed was not uncomfortable as far as firmness, but the sheets were very scratchy. As a matter of fact, we had to purchase sheets from a local store the next day because it was so bad. We also discovered sand-burs in some of our "freshly laundered" bath towels, which was very concerning. On a more minor note, there was no slider lock or deadbolt on our door; only the push lock within the handle. I would have felt more comfortable with the additional lock, which is standard at nearly all other establishments. Sadly, I would never recommend this place to anyone, nor will I ever stay there again.

Room Tip: We were told by others who attended the wedding that the ocean front rooms in the building with the...

This was a great place: clean, comfortable rooms, friendly, helpful staff and the view of the beach is simply wonderful! We were able to spend quality time with our 7-year-old grandson (he loves to fish) and family to make memories...It's so convenient to local, good places to eat, fish and shop. We were there a week in November and had the beach almost to ourselves, can't wait to go again! Thanks, Lori, for all your help!

Room Tip: I only know about the room we used, but I think if you want to experience the best oceanfront vacati...

My sister and I stayed in early December. Our room was clean and fresh, beds were very comfortable, and the view of the beach was great. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. Please know that this is not a fancy resort, if that's what you want. It is truly a bargain, we were expecting to pay more. Returning for sure!

We had a church group made up of couples that stayed in the Ocean Crest Motel. The guys fished and the ladies shopped and enjoyed going out for lunch, walked the beach and rode bicycles. Several of the guys also played golf - Oak Island Beach is a favorite for families and this is the 14th year for our church group. The staff is very accommodating and made our stay very enjoyable. Of course, we already have reservations for 2014.

we had a great stay. everyone was so friendly. they treated us like family. in the evening, I would go to the lobby to use my computer , but ended up chit-chatting with sherry, the sweet girl at the desk, most of the night.
the price for the stay is great, if you stay for 7 days, you only pay for 5 days.

Room Tip: the rooms closest to the office get better Wi-Fi. the ocean view rooms are perfect.

Hotel is not fancy but Sherry and (yikes... forgot name of owner) .... were very accommodating. They bent over backwards to make my stay great. I will come back here if I am ever able to get back to the Atlantic Ocean again!

Room Tip: Private balcony rooms are the best.... Had one night up there and my next night (which was an add-o...

The Ocean Crest is not fancy. In fact, it is just about as bare bones as you can get in 2013. It is however, in a great location next to the pier, convenient to the new bridge bringing traffic in from Hwy 211 without going into Southport, has an incredible view of the beautiful beach of Oak Island, and is very clean. .Our room was oceanfront in the building closest to the pier. The two double beds had "new" mattresses that were comfortable enough once you got past the noisy plastic covers. Since we were visiting family in Southport, we only needed a place to sleep so didn't go for the more expensive rooms with private balconies. Our view was from a shared walkway just outside the room and it was spectacular. The beach in front of the motel is wide and flat at low tide. The wall air conditioner was noisy - they always are - but it was effective and kept the room comfortable. The shower was fine with plenty of hot water. The maid service was really terrific. The room was completely cleaned with fresh linens after our first night and it was done correctly. The only complaint was that the front desk personnel were without personality and adhered strictly to their rules - no ifs, ands, or buts! Check in is, indeed, at 3 pm. Not a minute before! And don't even ask your room number until you are handed your key. That information is kept tightly under wraps until they are ready for you to know! Other than those somewhat odd rules, the Ocean Crest served its purpose well. Clean, affordable, great location, two nights of restful sleep, beautiful view of the ocean and pier - what more could you want? It's plenty for us! We know exactly where we'll be staying on our next visit!

Room Tip: If you want a queen bed, you'll have to go for the more expensive rooms in the ocean front priva...
