My wife and I spent a few days here in early June for a friend's beach wedding. It's nothing fancy, but it's clean. The included breakfast was convenient, but it may be worth venturing out occasionally if you stay for more than a few days as it lacks variety and crowds everyone in a small area. The pool and bar area is great and has very friendly bartenders who seem to remember all the guests. I wouldn't recommend ordering food there, though. We stayed in one of the units across the street from the beach. This was fine if you plan to spend most of your time at the beach, but I would probably stay beachfront for the view on a return visit. For activities, the beach/ocean was enough, but I would recommend the resort's free bike rental. The terrain is so flat, the average person can ride the full length of the oceanfront street in one trip. We tried a couple of restaurants in the area and have nothing special to report. The locals will recommend Calabash, which is about 10-15 min away and supposedly has a special style, but it seems to be synonymous with mediocre fried fish. In fact, I found it difficult to locate any decent seafood. Overall, this was a relaxing place with great weather and a beautiful beach.

Room Tip: Anything on the beach side of the street facing the ocean will have a great view, especially above the first floor. The pool is right in the middle and sometimes stays open past 11 for wedding parties. If you prefer to turn in early, you would be better off requesting a room near the end.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your travel experience with us and with others. We appreciate your comments about our beach and our bartenders, they are great! Sorry you weren't able to find better dining options, if you're back at The Winds again our front desk will be happy to point you in the direction of some really great spots including Sugar Shack, Inlet View, Sharky's, Roberto's, Twin Lakes, and several more nearby! We hope you enjoyed the wedding and we hope to have you back to stay with us again soon!

Having never been to Ocean Isle or The Winds, I was pleasantly surprised after checking in with my wife and 2-year-old daughter for a brief stay in mid-August, 2013. Firstly, the surrounding area is not overly commercialized and is more of a quiet, somewhat rural tourist town. The beach in front of the hotel was clean and never crowded. We were there with two other families and could setup camp right in front of the hotel with plenty of space to spread out. The quiet and sparsely populated beach is one of The Winds' best assets.

We stayed in an oceanfront suite on their top (3rd) floor. They have one elevator located at the far end of their building, and we opted to take the stairs most of the time we were there, getting some exercise in the process. If steps present a problem for you, ask for a room near their elevator. The views from our room and general ambiance were wonderful. The suite contained a bedroom, full bath, small kitchen, living area, and dining space. The unit had only one air conditioner located in the bedroom, and the rest of the suite would heat up quite unevenly. Apparently the staff were aware of this issue and brought a fan to our room, which we used to push air out into the rest of the suite from the bedroom, after which the entire space was quite comfortable.

Our unit had a dehumidifier that needed to be emptied daily. It had mold in it and I think their management needs to ensure that these are kept clean.

After checking in we ordered food from their poolside Tiki Bar and were surprised that it was actually quite good. The Winds does not have a sit-down restaurant, but they operate a small kitchen from which meals may be ordered. The Winds also offers all guests a free buffet-style breakfast each morning. The food was not bad at all and it made starting your day with kids much easier! The resort operates 3 pools, including one indoor pool which was great for the one rainy day we encountered while there.

Parking was never a problem and they provide you with a pass for using their many spaces. Our customer service encounters with the front desk and other hotel staff were excellent. Overall we would rate The Winds highly and plan to return in the future.

Room Tip: The lower floors don't have quite the ocean view as the 3rd floor or their "penthouse" suite.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your travel experience with us and with others. We appreciate all of your wonderful comments and advice for future travelers, I'm sure they will find your review very helpful and informative. We are sorry about the dehumidifier, they do need to be emptied daily especially in the hotter and more humid months like July and August. If not the still water can cause problems, but I have brought up the issue with our housekeeping staff per your comment. We are so glad they you enjoyed your vacation and we look forward to your next stay with us!

Arrived and walked into the lobby and was immediately overcome with the smell of mold - was worried, but our room was very clean (especially the bathroom, which I am very particular about) and comfortable. We were on the 3rd floor - which meant we had to go up 4 flights of stairs to get to our room, not great for someone with a bum knee. The breakfast was good - but not many places to sit - so go either early or later. Lunch at the Tiki Bar by the pool was good - very filling. The beach is a short walk, but be warned ... again there are many stairs up and down to get there. Overall it wasn't a bad stay - you have to drive to get anywhere - not much within walking distance. We booked a massage through the hotel, but if you want one I would check out other places, it was a bit pricy for the hour massage in my opinion - I did it for the convenience, but after driving around and seeing other places available I would check into other options.

Room Tip: There is a section of the hotel that has an elevator, I would recommend asking for that if you need one. We stayed on the salt marsh side of the property and it was very quiet.

Thank you for taking the time to share your travel experience with us and with others. We are glad to hear that you found your room very clean and comfortable. We know mold can be a problem when you are so close to the ocean, but be rest assured that we take every precaution. As for the stairs, we do have an elevator on the oceanfront that you can use to access all of the rooms. If you were staying in one of the island side cottages there shouldn't be more than one or two flights. As for the stairs for the beach access, unfortunately those are unavoidable to elevate the access to protect the dunes. And yes, driving is necessary as Ocean Isle isn't overly commercialized and is somewhat spread out, but there are a few attractions right at the pier. We hope you enjoyed your vacation and we hope to have you back to stay with us again soon!

Celebrated our 41st. wedding anniversary there. Room was very clean, but dated. The entire place could use a remodel. Nice pool overlooking the ocean. Good breakfast included every morning. Wouldn't go back because of the area. Wanted an upscale restaurant to celebrate "the day". Not to be found. All and all, it was OK. We love the ocean and will put up with a lot to be near it.

Room Tip: Water front only, but away from the pool and Tiki bar. Too noisy!

Thank you for taking the time to share your travel experience with us and with others. We are sorry you didn't find Ocean Isle to be a more pleasant vacation locale, it is a more laid-back area with a casual feel. There are several upscale dining options in nearby Myrtle Beach and also in Wilmington, but Ocean Isle itself tries to remain less-commercialized. We are happy you enjoyed the beach, the oceanfront pool and the free breakfast while you were here. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and congratulations on your anniversary!

Ok here it go, The Wind Resort is not a Ritz or a Four seasons but it is a home away from home. Got lost getting there, but when I arrived the staff knew me right off, very pleasant welcome felt welcome right off the bat. The room was kind of tight for three kids and three Adults plus a dog that was my fault trying to save money lol. I spoke to the staff at check out about one issue with the room he said we will get right on it, so I wont mention that. Ok the set up was breakfast on the first day fried Apples was on the buffet after that the apples took a vacation too, they were good what a set up. The rest of the week no apples but every thing else was great trust me the food was good. Tiki Stop by the pool (what goes on in NC stays in NC) Get a bike ride around cool. To the Wind Staff thanks from the house keeping to the trash collector thanks for all your conversation and help.

Room Tip: Dont go cheap nice rooms I did stick my head in some others.
