Stayed here for 3 nights in June....rooms and hotel are just as pictured. Great location, wonderful views and everything is wonderfully clean. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a good view of the water.

Just got back from staying at the Anchorage Inn and was very pleased with it. The room was spotless and housekeeping was awesome. We stayed on the fourth floor and the view of the harbor was wonderful, watched the ferry boats come in and out. Enjoyed the pool, just a short distance across the street by the harbor. Short walking distance to restaurants and shops.Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Stay on the 3rd or 4th floor for best view.

We have stayed here several times and found it the same both times; simple, clean, friendly, and comfortable. We start our vacation here before checking into our weekly cottage on Hatteras. This hotel is a fabulous place to check into and just relax...did I mention we travel with 4 kids and two dogs. Dog rooms are on the lower floor only, which is fine by us. For being pet friendly we never experience any pet related issues, the rooms are super clean and never have any residual doggie odor or unexpected bugs. It is fabulously low key with great location to everything!! The staff is friendly and helpful...the breakfast is simple but our kids LOVE it...

Room Tip: End rooms have no real view and the lower floor is pet friendly..

Very clean rooms... AWESOME views of the lake, the marina, the lighthouse, and sunsets (we stayed on the 3rd floor)... great people watching from the balcony... It was nice to come back & jump in the pool after being on the beach all day! Easy walk to several bars & restaurants. Easy walk to Howards Pub (maybe 1 mile).

Room Tip: Stayed on the 3rd floor - GREAT view - elevator was SLOW, so we took the steps every time.

Don't let some of the other reviews scare you. We are pretty picky when it comes to hotel rooms and we were very satisfied with our choice to stay at the Anchorage. The rooms are about on par with what you would find at a Best Western. They aren't anything fancy and are a little dated, but they are clean, spacious, and comfortable.

There is a continental breakfast served in the tiny office each morning, but it is definitely nothing to get excited about. If you are expecting tables and chairs and a B&B experience, you may want to look elsewhere. (We highly recommend the Castle at Silver Lake if you are looking for a more romantic B&B experience!)

The views are what really makes this place so special. Almost every room has a perfect wide window view of the harbor. Try to get a room on the third or fourth floor if you can. The higher the floor, the better the view. I believe that all of the rooms with the king beds are on the fourth floor and the doubles are on the third. It also helps that this place has the only elevator on the island. It's not fun dragging your luggage up several flights of stairs in the July heat!

Speaking of elevators, make sure that you don't get an "end room" on any floor or your view will be blocked by a brick wall.

As you can see from the pictures, the hotel has large balconies on each floor. We traveled to Ocracoke for a family reunion, so the balcony provided a great place for us to congregate and watch the sunsets.

I highly recommend the Anchorage if you are traveling with a large group or planning a family reunion in Ocracoke because it is big enough to accomodate large groups, has an elevator for older relatives that can't easily navigate stairs, and is one of only four hotels with a pool on the island - which the kids and sun-lovers in the family will enjoy!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the third or fourth floor if you can. The higher the floor, the better the view...

Our room was on the third floor. Was kind of surprised there was a vacancy as we were told we were taking a chance "in season". Arrived on motorcycle with no reservation and this was the place my husband had seen mentioned in an article somewhere. I did NO research which is highly unusual for us but that's how he likes to travel when we are on the bike. Staff was nice enough. Great view and standard rooms. Didn't have the dampness problem I see mentioned a lot in the recent reviews. Yes it is very mosquito ridden but it's not the hotel's fault. Every place we visited, same issue. Would we stay again? Likely. Chairs outside of doors are a very nice touch. We did not stay in a suite so I cannot comment on the status of the suites. Soda machine was handy.

Room Tip: Higher floors, better view.

We stayed for two nights in July. The rooms were clean BUT, the rooms are so damp that even dry clothing gets wet. The air conditioning cools the rooms but does not take the humidity out of the air. They allow pets, which is nice, and the reason that we stayed there. So I commend them for that. Probably would not stay there again though because of the dampness.

Room Tip: Ask for room on the higher floors...great view of the harbor.
