“Best on the island!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

We are currently staying at the Bluff Shoal Motel - first time to Ocracoke and it is wonderful - feels like we are "back in time" - rooms are very clean and quiet, bed comfortable and relaxing. Wonderful front porch to people watch and wonderful deck in the back to watch the boats come in - beautiful sunsets. Have strolled around the village many times since arriving and would not pick a different place to stay!

We stayed here for one night (of our second night of our mini eastern shore motorcycle vacation). What a cute place! What a great location!! Right in front of a "happening night life" restaurant that had live music. The motel had a "home" feeling with screened doors and chairs to sit in front to watch the people walk and bike by and the back of the hotel had a secret -like deck that had beautiful views of the water and boats. The room felt more like a room in someone's house than a hotel and everything functioned properly. The shower was wonderful after riding thru some sand blasts to get to Ocracoke. I would definitely stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bluff Shoal Motel. We like to stay at locally-run places if possible, rather than cookie-cutter chain hotels, and we like that Ocracoke still tends to be that kind of place. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the location could not have been better. We were right on Silver Lake and probably had the best view from the backyard deck of any place on the island. We had a totally clear view of the harbor and the Ocracoke Lighthouse, with absolutely no obstructions to mar the excellent view. The room was clean, pleasant, and comfortable and had a mini frig. Although there was no microwave in the room, the office lobby had one available just a few steps away, and there was coffee and ice available as well. A nice bonus was that the office lobby had a selection of menus from almost every restaurant on the island, which was very convenient and quick. There was also an extra outlet strip provided in the room, which was a nice touch. We were able to rent bikes at a place nearby and had a lovely tour of the island. (We rented bikes from the Pony Island Motel just up the road - the cheapest rental on the island - and had a nice breakfast at the restaurant there, Gaffer's Sports Pub is another good place for breakfast, just a short walk up the road, and not as crowded at the Pony.) There were several restaurants in easy walking distance, as well as shops and the visitor center. We biked to the lighthouse around the lake, We would definitely come back to stay at the Bluff Shoal Motel again!

Room Tip: Rooms 6-7 (? 5) have a window view of the lake, but just go out on the back deck for the best view o...

My husband and I stayed at Bluff Shore Motel, based on its location and the reviews we read online. When we called to inquire about vacancies, we were told there were plenty of rooms and they were 99$ a night. When we arrived, we learned there were 2 vacant rooms; room 1 with a queen bed, or room 5 with two doubles. We took room 5 for the harbor view, but learned later that the internet reception was so poor we had to go sit outside the office in order to have service.

We stayed overnight here for 1 night a few weekends ago. What a great location, just down from the ferry landing, right in the harbor. We got there late and our key was waiting for us on the office counter. Our room, #5, was clean and comfortable and we parked right in front of it. The car stayed parked as we were able to walk everywhere. There is a little dock behind the hotel on the water that you can go out and spend some chill time. There is a little yard area and a BBQ spot too. Great view out on the water. The office gal was super sweet and when I mentioned we meant to get some bug spray, she said she'd get me some of hers'. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Please note room 5 has 2 queen beds that are pretty firm, if you prefer that.

Loved this motel. Only 7 units, right on the main road where you can walk to most of the shops and restaurants. Wonderful owners, the rooms were very clean, ocean breezes through the open windows and loved the porch where you can people watch. out back are chairs and a swing overlooking Silver Lake...so peaceful in the middle of a touristy town. We will stay here again!

My husband and I spent our anniversary week here and were very pleased with everything about this little gem on ocracoke ! The rooms were very clean, beds comfortable, the staff very hospitable and the location couldn't be better. They have a nice deck with chairs right on Silver Lake , perfect for your morning coffee or evening cocktails! The owner even let us borrow a fishing pole to fish a little . When we return we will definitely stay here!
