It is right along Hwy 12 about half way between ferry and Ocracoke. Ocracoke ponies are wild decendents from Spanish mustangs. There is a herd of about 25 that you can see from viewing stand. Interesting history and free.

“No Big Deal”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2013

The wild ponies are penned up. you can climb up some bleachers and look down at a few horses that are in a fenced in area. It is barely worth the stop to see them.

“I don't want to see them from a platform...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

I was really looking forward to seeing the ponies after reading about them online, but was a little disappointed upon arriving. We pulled up and there were two beautiful ponies in the front pasture, but the fact that there were two fences blocking you from getting up close to them and the fact that you had to go up some stairs and stand on a platform in order to see anything was a little disappointing. They're ponies... not rabid animals that you have to keep some crazy distance from.

“Wild pony's in a pen?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

This is the first place to stop on a long road from the ferry dock to the village of Orcacoke. There are some informational signs and you can walk along one side of the enclosure. The pony's of course were hiding behind bushes and little sheds.

“Finally saw them!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

We finally saw the ponies up close after trying for years! There were a handful of ponies in the front pasture and you could see others in a paddocks.. Had fun watching them with our 3 year old and walking to the other viewing platform.
