We originally booked a suite but with family coming with us, decided to take two rooms in the older part of the motel. The clean and simple rooms were fine for us since we don't spend much time in them anyway. The only thing missing was a hair dryer which I learned I can live without. I would stay there again.

We liked the 3:00 pm check in time. We took our one suitcase to the second floor suite that we had reserved. We were in the room for all of 15 minutes and then left the motel to enjoy the island. When we got back to the room at around 5:30 pm there was a message on our telephone from the front desk. The desk clerk said that there had been a complaint from some neighbors about noise. She said that we had apparently made too much noise when we were coming up the stairs and that we needed to be quieter or we might be asked to leave. What? We've been staying in motels for the last 15 years on the Outer Banks (including Ocracoke) and have never received a complaint, nor made one. We are always respectful of others and do our very best to make as little noise as possible. We weren't loud when we moved into our room, especially on the stairs. Even if we had been, the posted quiet hours were from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am. It kind of made us self conscious, fearing that shoud one of us sneeze, we might be reported again and kicked out. I go on vacation to relax, not to fbe accused of being a loud troublemaker. I doubt if we'll stay at the Pony Island Motel again. We're going back to the Anchorage Inn, where you're allowed to check in and unpack without a hassle.

My SO and I stayed here on our massive road trip down the east coast. It certainly seemed clean, front desk was helpful when we had a problem with the internet (it's wireless with a password, but I had to choose a different password setting than the default on my Mac.) Otherwise good internet, we had a strong signal the whole time. Walls are pretty thin. Luckily our neighbors were on the same "early to bed" schedule that we were. Also, this it being picky, but there was no additional deadbolt on the door, like in most hotel rooms. I just thought that if I was a woman traveling alone I would want more security than that. Parking is out front, and they use real keys, not cards. I considered the location good as it is walking distance to several restaurants and stores. What earns this hotel such a high rating is the cleanliness and great price. We were going to camp out tonight . . . for double the price of a campsite we didn't have to.

had a nice two-night stay at pony island motel. husband had stayed before years ago and had good time - was part of a fishing trip. got an efficiency room so were able to cook for ourselves. also GREATLY appreciate the fact that were reserved for 3 nights, but due to heavy fog, could not get to ocracoke until next day (stayed on hatteras). the did NOT charge us for that missed night, which i really appreciate (esp. since would have meant paying for two rooms that night). nonetheless, is a well-kept older motel, not high end, but good for what it is. not sure if there are non-smoking rooms, but we did have a smoking room (could tell by smell and that ash trays present). even with that said, and i do not like cigarette smoke or the smell of it left behind, we were able to run the ceiling fan, open windows, run fan in bathroom to keep the cig smell at bay - and granted i'm quite obnoxious about the whole thing. folks working there were real hospitable and friendly to us, too. will return!

We have been staying at the Pony for severals years. One lady at the front office is very nice. Another is not so friendly. Hey, I know Ocracoke is laid back, etc, but there is a very 'who cares' attitude with some people there. Hotel itself was very clean, pool is great and the restaurant there has a great breakfast. A little smile or welcoming attitude, like hi, so glad you are spending your $300 dollars here!

We come back to the "pony" every year with friends; usually stay 2-3 nights.
The newer pool-side rooms are clean with enough room for our family of three.
The rooms have the basics. Be sure to bring your own shampoo, lotion, etc. as they are not provided.
The Location cound'nt be better. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place nor is Ocrocake...go somewhere else.
No snooty people please!!!!

We stayed at the Pony for two nights. The rooms are relatively small, but clean and well-kept. Some normal amenities were missing...
Don't expect a hair dryer, shampoo, facial tissue or a coffee maker.
The check-in clerk was very businesslike and humorless.... perhaps she had been through a bad day; but she was the same when we checked out. A smile or welcoming attitude would help.
