We've stayed at the Pony Island Inn before in one of the 'mini-suites'. It was very clean and comfortable. This time, we decided to stay in a cottage. We stayed in Pony Island #2. It was wonderful! The price was much cheaper than most of the homes you can rent for a week on the Island, but the kitchen was stocked with appliances and utensils/serveware similar to the larger house we rented before. Pony #2 was clean, very comfortable, and looked to be recently remodeled, judging by the Pony Island website pictures. There is new tile in the living room and they've painted the panelling in the living areas white so that it's very clean and bright. The location is great, too - close enough to bike to everything. The pool, the village, restaurants, etc. The beach access could be biked to if you don't have children and boogie boards and an umbrella. No complaints whatsoever!

We wanted to take the kids to Ocracoke to hit the beach, day trip to Hatteras, wander around Ocracoke, fly kites, generally stay busy - this was a perfect place to crash - it is no frills - don't forget to pack your hairdryer if you need one on your beach trip! but it is spotless clean and the folks at the front desk are incredibly nice. We all enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant, renting bikes to ride around the island, and jumping in the pool at the end of the day. Clean, inexpensive and friendly place.

I visited the island on my yearly trip over Memorial Day weekend. As always the Pony Island Motel was in wonderful shape and everything about this stay at Pony Island Motel was perfect. From the front desk to the maid service everything was perfect. This is a wonderful place to stay when you visit this beautiful island.

Nice area for morning walks, very clean property and room, with coffee maker, fridge, microwave, with 2 Queen beds. The mattresses were not too comfortable, but were fair. The pad on the mattress was vinyl, which made it hot, but there was a fabric pad on top. Only improvement needed were to provide more comfortable mattresses and not use the vinyl mattress covers. Room was very clean and friendly staff! Would stay there again.

We originally booked a suite but with family coming with us, decided to take two rooms in the older part of the motel. The clean and simple rooms were fine for us since we don't spend much time in them anyway. The only thing missing was a hair dryer which I learned I can live without. I would stay there again.

We liked the 3:00 pm check in time. We took our one suitcase to the second floor suite that we had reserved. We were in the room for all of 15 minutes and then left the motel to enjoy the island. When we got back to the room at around 5:30 pm there was a message on our telephone from the front desk. The desk clerk said that there had been a complaint from some neighbors about noise. She said that we had apparently made too much noise when we were coming up the stairs and that we needed to be quieter or we might be asked to leave. What? We've been staying in motels for the last 15 years on the Outer Banks (including Ocracoke) and have never received a complaint, nor made one. We are always respectful of others and do our very best to make as little noise as possible. We weren't loud when we moved into our room, especially on the stairs. Even if we had been, the posted quiet hours were from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am. It kind of made us self conscious, fearing that shoud one of us sneeze, we might be reported again and kicked out. I go on vacation to relax, not to fbe accused of being a loud troublemaker. I doubt if we'll stay at the Pony Island Motel again. We're going back to the Anchorage Inn, where you're allowed to check in and unpack without a hassle.

My SO and I stayed here on our massive road trip down the east coast. It certainly seemed clean, front desk was helpful when we had a problem with the internet (it's wireless with a password, but I had to choose a different password setting than the default on my Mac.) Otherwise good internet, we had a strong signal the whole time. Walls are pretty thin. Luckily our neighbors were on the same "early to bed" schedule that we were. Also, this it being picky, but there was no additional deadbolt on the door, like in most hotel rooms. I just thought that if I was a woman traveling alone I would want more security than that. Parking is out front, and they use real keys, not cards. I considered the location good as it is walking distance to several restaurants and stores. What earns this hotel such a high rating is the cleanliness and great price. We were going to camp out tonight . . . for double the price of a campsite we didn't have to.
