It was bad timing more than anything, but we were there the same weekend as a wedding party that rented out most of the hotel. The walls are thin, and some of the rooms on the second floor have windows that open right to the patio. It was alright for the price though, and I'm sure if we had sprung for more than the queen room it would have been nicer.

I go to Ocracoke Island annually. My first trip down was for a memorial event. We stayed at Blackbeard's Lodge for our trip that weekend. Wonderful. Chip and his staff are great. The rooms are clean, the surroundings are peaceful, and the building has a wonderful antique feel to it. I always look forward to my stays here.

Room Tip: I like the rooms with "private porches." It gives you a private place to unwind and relax...

Did all our research via internet, price was right, but not so sure when we drove up to the outside of the building, it we made the right choice. We did and loved the atmosphere and the staff were very helpful and knowledgable of the island's history. The queen bed was great, shower head was terrific as well as the hot water. Great towels to add the the collection of positives. Sorry we could only stay one night.

Stayed here in a rather stuffy little room several years ago for one night before moving to a lovely suite elsewhere on the island. It was soon discovered that my daughter had left a bag w/ brand new gym shoes in the room. We immediately called over there but were told that it must've been thrown out by the maid. No lost & found? Very strange. Not the friendliest vibe, frankly. Enjoyed the unique lobby and the pool, though.

We stayed at Bluebeard's Lodge one Sunday night last May because of a sudden decision to travel north by way of the Outer Banks. We called ahead and chose Blackbeard's sight unseen because we were staying only one night and the price was right. The hotel was the oldest on the island, and rooms had been added haphazardly over the years. Old doesn't bother me - I work in museums, but the place was pretty run down and left us wishing we had brought some tools to pitch in and do a little upkeep. Our room was up a couple of steps, but the steps were not uniform so we tripped constantly (as did everyone else.) The room was clean, small but with pretty thin walls, almost no light fixtures and funky plumbing. The clerk (maybe he was the owner?) was friendly and helpful. I rented a bike but had trouble finding one in working condition. And the bikes are left out in the rain, so the seats were pretty much soaked. The pool area looked okay, but was not open. The location is great - right in the center of the village. A really good restaurant, "The Back Porch" is steps across the road. All that said, we would return in an instant to this wonderfully friendly and charming island - and now that we know what to expect, its quirky Blackbeard's Lodge. (We'll bring our tools this time.)

Room Tip: The rooms are as different as night and day. Ask for specifics when you book.

Recently visited here again after the hurricane blew through. This is an older original hotel, built in the early 1900's, which has been though a number of updates to bring it to modern times, but still feels very classic and a through back in time. If you want a slick Hilton Hampton Marriott experience this isn't for you, it feels more like a cross between a B&B and an old Hotel. The prices are very reasonable for the Island. Some old boards creek, but the people are friendly.
