My wife and I stayed here the weekend of July 26-27, 2014. We stayed in one of the rooms with a king-sized bed. It was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. I thought it was a gel mattress, but Chip the manager, told me it was a tempurpedic, and they were replacing all their mattresses with those kinds...very comfortable.

The hotel is well-maintained and convenient to everything. Bike rentals are available by the day or hour. The game room and lobby are well-stocked with books and games. The front porch is shady and nice for rocking chairs and people-watching.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful with everything.

I saw there are some negative reviews here, but we had a wonderful experience. The rates are very reasonable, too.

My family stayed at Blackbeards Lodge last week while visiting Ocracoke for the first time. We were put in the Boyette Suite, 2 double beds and a queen bed separated by a Jack and Jill bathroom, which was perfect for us! Each room has it's own sink which made sharing a bathroom much easier. Our room was very clean and all the furnishings throughout the entire lodge really cater to the whole Blackbeard theme which our kids loved! The pool was very clean also! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with any questions we had and we thoroughly enjoyed our time!!

A couple times a year the "girls" get together for a few days of low key enjoyment and we always stay at Blackbeards. It's a short walk to any place we'd like to go. Although I've suggested we try another place, the girls feel it's like our 2nd home. There's restaurants, entertainment or shops all very close and a short walk down town. The Ocracoke coffee shop is just around the corner for the early risers to go sit until the others stroll on down. It's an old building with more of a country style than a beach décor, however, it's clean and the staff is friendly and accommodating

I stayed at Blackbeard's Lodge in the Manager's Apartment with my wife, our 15-month old, another couple, and their 2-year old. The Manager's apartment has three bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, living room, dining room, and a screened porch right beside the pool. We were all thrilled with our stay. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, the staff was outstanding, and the Lodge is convenient to a lot of great places on the island. My 5-piece band stayed on the island as well, and one of our shows was canceled due to weather, so the staff let us play an acoustic set in the Lobby, and allowed us to use their piano (which was in tune!) We had a absolute blast, and a lot of other folks at the lodge came down to listen. It was a perfect end to our week on Ocracoke. I truly can't say enough good things about Blackbeard's Lodge. If you're looking for a penthouse suite in a 5-star hotel, then this probably isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for super-clean rooms, friendly service, a place rich in history with a lot of charm and character, then you owe it to yourself to stay here. You will NOT be disappointed.

This place was not at all what they showed on the web site. We payed for a king bed room and the room literally fit just the king bed. You had to walk all the way around the bed to get to the bathroom. It was super disappointing for the money we paid(we paid about $120). We also paid extra to have our dog there. They have a sign on the door that says dogs can't be on the bed. Which was not on their website. There isn't anywhere else in the room for dogs to be. Complete rip off!

Blackbeard's Lodge offered us just the Ocracoke experience we were looking for. When my hubby and I travel, we like places with a little "character", and BL had no shortage of character! Walking into the place is like stepping back into time, and you are greeted by a life-size Blackbeard himself near the front desk.
Reception staff were very friendly and offered helpful suggestions about the area and we were able to check in about an hour early. Hotel guests are offered discount rates for bike and golf cart rentals.
Our room was small but cozy and the cleaning staff did a great job of keeping it spic for the three days and two nights we were there. Only complaint was the lack of water pressure in the shower and the water temperature alternating between hot and cold but that's what we get for showering during the peak morning hours I guess! ;)
Overall great grounds (really nice porch with swings and rocking chairs), beautiful clean pool with lots of lounge chairs, everything very clean and well kept. And the hotel is centrally located so you can walk to just about anywhere! Would definitely stay here again.

Overall, I would give this place another stay! The owners were really easy to deal with, and since we were coming in after their office closes (9 p.m.) they left a key out for us with directions to our room. Good location, but everything in Ocracoke is walkable.
The rooms were tiny, I will say that, and not much frills are going on here, BUT it's fairly cheap, with a comfy bed and pillows.
Dogs are cool too, which is awesome! The downstairs is just beautiful, and used to be an old movie theater, the locals say.
