Several people told us the the Pony Island Restaurant is the most popular place for breakfast in Ocracoke, and as we were staying in the adjoining motel (see separate review) we decided to give it a go. We waited until 10 o'clock and the fact that there was still a queue to get tables is testament to how popular it is.
The restaurant is very smart yet retains a cosy feel to it and the service was quick and friendly. We only ordered pretty simple breakfasts of eggs, bacon and hash browns and it was fine, with a huge helping of potatoes. A slight down side was the toast, which was rather pale and limp, but overall the breakfast was fine, without being particularly special.
If I was solely rating on the standard of the food we ordered I would mark as average, but when you add in the style of the restaurant, the service and the comprehensive menu I think it climbs out of the average bracket and I would certainly recommend it.
