Several people told us the the Pony Island Restaurant is the most popular place for breakfast in Ocracoke, and as we were staying in the adjoining motel (see separate review) we decided to give it a go. We waited until 10 o'clock and the fact that there was still a queue to get tables is testament to how popular it is.

The restaurant is very smart yet retains a cosy feel to it and the service was quick and friendly. We only ordered pretty simple breakfasts of eggs, bacon and hash browns and it was fine, with a huge helping of potatoes. A slight down side was the toast, which was rather pale and limp, but overall the breakfast was fine, without being particularly special.

If I was solely rating on the standard of the food we ordered I would mark as average, but when you add in the style of the restaurant, the service and the comprehensive menu I think it climbs out of the average bracket and I would certainly recommend it.

We chose the Pony Island for our breakfast on Sunday morning. They were busy and we waited a short time to be seated . We were able to place our orders soon after seating and our food came out quickly. Their breakfast is good enjoyable diner food. Our servers were friendly and quick.

The family and i stopped by on a very Very rainy and busy day. One of the first days it was open for breakfast. Although it did take a while as it was packed to the gills we were seated swiftly and were taken care of. The food was spectacular. Amazing blueberry pancakes!!

It's not actually a diner, but it's that kind of place - friendly waitresses who refill your coffee and chat with you. Fantastic biscuits! Huge portions. I had your basic breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns and ooh, those biscuits. Everything was good and well, basic.

Best breakfast on the Island, the Pony potatoes were awesome! The salsa was just the right heat to make the whole breakfast memorable.
