“Good location, laid back place...inconsistent food and service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2012

We go to Ocracoke every year during our stay in Hatteras. Invariably we end up at the Jolly Roger. This year our waitress was positively surly. My teenage daughter's water was basically watered down sprite (they come from the same button on the hose at the bar...hence hers was the first glass filled and there was sprite syrup in the hose). She wouldn't ask for a fresh glass because she was afraid the waitress would yell. Service was very slow, the restaurant was full, but not crazy crowded like I've seen it other times. Good iced tea, Arnold Palmers and cold beer, free refills on the iced tea. Crab cake was good, tuna bites from app menu were excellent, hummus was awful. The boys liked their burgers and the fries were great.
This is not fine dining, great location, cold beer...in the past we've had fun waitresses, maybe this was just a bad day for the one we had this year.
IMPORTANT--if you are visiting Ocracoke, bathrooms (real ones) are at a premium...most stores send you to one of the Porto-pots located strategically throughout the town. Use the bathroom at the Jolly Roger before you leave. They're not exactly welcoming if you stop back to use the bathroom.
On the Porto-pot note...the one behind Ride the Wind Surf Shop isn't used as much as the others and it is clean and stocked with toilet paper.

“Bring Back the Brie!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2012

I used to love the brie platter....with the grapes and crackers. I was sad to see it no longer on the menu! Nevertheless, the food was fantastic as was the service and ambiance!

“not worth it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2012

This place is only good if you like fried seafood, poor service and only the option of beer or wine. The only positive thing I can say is that the location is very nice: on the water. There was also some very nice live music one evening, but that is where the happiness ends!

“If only the food could match the views....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2012

Great location. Right on Silver Lake harbor marina. Our calamari was overcooked. Fish was undercooked and smelled really fishy. Forget about the bare minimum alcohol selection. Come here to drink soda and watch the day go by. Service however was friendly and prompt.

“Great beach bar with good views and friendly service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2012

No, this is not fine dining! This is a great place to come after the beach where you can be loud with your kids and no one cares. The service is friendly and the beer is cold. Great views of the sunset. The food is consistently good - would not say great - but for the price and convenience it is hard to beat if that is what you are in the mood for - you can eat there in your bathing suit. Great entertainment in the evenings. An Ocracoke tradition that you should try at least once.
