we had a suite on the 3rd floor with full kitchen, queen bedroom, double pull out sofa, two TVs and a small balcony.. The combination springs/air mattress in it was better than a regular fold out. there's a small elevator for luggage. very nice place. nice breakfast in the office across the street. they rent golf carts too, (THE thing to do while in Ocracoke.) gorgeous beaches just out of town.

Room Tip: ask for 3rd floor front to get a slightly better view

Checkin was easy, room was ready a little early, rented bikes the first day, got a golf cart the next day as soon as one was available. The owner was very helpful. Great view from our room on the first floor. Room was very clean. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the apartment located behind the inn (owned and operated by the harbor inn) and it was perfect for our family of 5. Very clean, close to everything but far enough away to not hear any of the bars or nightlife. Would recommend to anyone. Staff was very nice.

This hotel is one of only two located on the quiet side of the harbor, two blocks away from the bars, noise, restaurants, and nightlife on SR 12. This one has private balconies with a great view of the harbor; the other one (The Castle) has its view blocked by a large house and no balconies. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else. The room was large (we were in 305), the place was clean and up-to-date, and the staff friendly and helpful. You can rent bicycles or a golf cart at the office. The continental breakfast is pretty good, though limited in selection. There is no elevator, but they have a dumbwaiter for luggage if you're on the 2nd or 3rd floor. I cannot think of a single complaint.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room facing the harbor with a view (2nd or 3rd floor). The hotel website has a floor plan that lets you select your room.

My husband and I were overnighting in Ocracoke and selected the OHI based on reviews we read on TripAdvisor. We were happy to discover that the reviews were not misleading. We stayed in Room 101, parked right in front of our room, and enjoyed the patio with the view of the lake. The room itself was large and exceptionally clean. We were able to check in a bit earlier, which was nice. The king size bed was comfortable, although it did have the dreadful polyester bedspread on top, which we immediately took off, folded up and put on the luggage rack. The temperature of the room was easy to adjust and we were absolutely comfortable. It was definitely worth the $160 plus tax we paid for the height of the summer season, and we will recommend it to our friends and family.

There were a couple of quirks which would not prevent a return stay, but I point these out in the hope that constructive feedback will help the management of the hotel. First, the person at the desk who checked us in (early, I will admit) was not friendly nor particularly welcoming. Okay, I don't want this person to be my best friend, but a little hospitality or even a smile would have been nice. It made us feel a little bit "oh, you're here, so what?" Again, not a deal breaker - just a suggestion.

The other thing is that they offer a continental breakfast, which is truly what we always do for breakfast anywhere we go. They have a nice breakfast area and put out what you would expect from a continental breakfast, but even this simple breakfast was substandard. No fresh fruit - not even a bowl of apples - just fruit right from a can. Selection of 2 or 3 muffins which did not look appetizing at all, and bagels. You can't go wrong with bagels, right? Wrong. These bagels were still frozen. No problem. Just put them in the industrial toaster. Wrong. They were also uncut. A little difficult to cut them in half with a plastic knife. The person working behind the food bar (same person who checked us in) again was stone faced and did not even acknowledge the guests who came in. Maybe she needs a vacation. A place this pretty and well appointed could do a little better with the breakfast they advertise as an amenity.

I will reiterate my observations would not keep me away from the OHI, but hospitality often makes the difference. In the whole, my criticisms are very, very minor, and are offered in a spirit of constructive feedback.
